Weightlifting at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games kicked off on Aug. 7, 2024, with the Men’s 61-kilogram contest. Li Fabin of China was the expected gold medalist.
Although Fabin fell four kilograms short of his best efforts in 2024, he still secured the gold medal and an Olympic record in the snatch at 143 kilograms. Fabin achieved the record on his third attempt, going three for three in the snatch while winning his second consecutive Olympic title.

2024 Paris Olympics Games Results — Men’s 61KG
Editor’s Note: No individual medals are awarded for the snatch and clean & jerk at the Olympics. The notation above reads, “Athlete (Country) — Total (Snatch/Clean & Jerk).”
- Li Fabin (CHN) — 310 (143 / 167) — Olympic Record Snatch
- Silachai Theerapong (THA) — 303 (132 / 171)
- Hampton Morris (USA) — 298 (126 / 172)
Fabin arrived on the lifting platform confident and in prime condition. He was the last athlete to lift in the snatch, with the highest opening snatch attempt of 137 kilograms. He made easy work of it and reinforced the widespread notion that the gold medal was his to lose.
Fabin continued his dominance over the field with a smooth snatch attempt at 140. With the world record standard for the snatch in the Men’s 61-kilogram class at 142, Fabin called for 143 kilograms on the barbell.
Repeating his presentation through his first two snatch attempts, Fabin’s Olympic-record snatch never appeared in doubt. It should not come as a surprise that Fabin was capable of such a lift as he is the world record snatch holder at 146 kilograms.
