2024 U80 World’s Strongest Man Results

Dillon Thompson scores his first U80 WSM title in Madison, WI.

The 2024 Official Strongman Games occurred in Madison, WI, on Dec. 6-8, 2024. The competition featured weight class contests for male and female athletes, including the 2024 Under 90 Kilograms (U90) World Strongest Man (WSM) comprising seven events: Log Lift, Car Walk, Deadlift, Carry & Push Medley, Sandbag Toss, Wrecking Ball Hold, and Atlas Stones.

Ten athletes representing four countries vied for the title, but Dillon Thompson of the USA claimed the gold with 55.5 of a possible 70 points. He was joined by an all-American podium with the only other two athletes to eclipse 50 points — Tommy Lovell and Josh Kowalewski.

  3. Josh Kowalewski (USA) — 50.5 points
  4. Chris Harper (CAN) — 49.5 points
  5. Mason Cupp (USA) — 38.5 points
  6. Richard Molnar (UK) — 38 points
  7. Finlay Mercer (UK) — 32.5 points
  8. Dean McVie (UK) — 23.5 points
  9. Steve Coyne (USA) — 22.5 points
  10. Jonas Bertschinger (SUI) — 22 points

2024 U80 World’s Strongest Man Event Results

Below are the results for each of the seven contested events in Madison:

Log Lift

With one minute on the clock, athletes lifted 113 or 127 kilograms for reps. Any rep with the heavier log outranked any number of reps with the lighter weight.

  1. Dillon Thompson — Five reps, 127 kilograms
  2. Josh Kowalewski — Three reps, 127 kilograms (T-second)
  3. Richard Molnar — Three reps, 127 kilograms (T-second)
  4. Dean McVie — Three reps, 127 kilograms (T-second)
  5. Mason Cupp — Two reps, 127 kilograms (T-fifth)
  6. Chris Harper — Two reps, 127 kilograms (T-fifth)
  7. Jonas Bertschinger — Two reps, 127 kilograms (T-fifth)
  8. Tommy Lovell — One rep, 127 kilograms
  9. Finlay Mercer — Three reps, 113 kilograms
  10. Steve Coyne — Two reps, 113 kilograms

Car Walk

Each strongman had one minute to traverse the 331-kilogram apparatus down the 15-meter course as fast as possible.

  1. Josh Kowalewski — 10.22 seconds
  2. Chris Harper — 11.76 seconds
  3. Tommy Lovell — 11.84 seconds
  4. Steve Coyne — 12.06 seconds
  5. Dillon Thompson — 14.09 seconds
  6. Finlay Mercer — 14.45 seconds
  7. Mason Cupp — 15.53 seconds
  8. Dean McVie — 15.77 seconds
  9. Jonas Bertschinger — 16.32 seconds
  10. Richard Molnar — 31.73 seconds

Deadlift

With one minute on the clock, athletes lifted 290 kilograms on an axle bar for reps.

  1. Richard Molnar — 10 reps
  2. Tommy Lovell — Five reps (T-second)
  3. Josh Kowalewski — Five reps (T-second)
  4. Chris Harper — Four reps (T-fourth)
  5. Finlay Mercer — Four reps (T-fourth)
  6. Dillon Thompson — Three reps (T-sixth)
  7. Mason Cupp — Three reps (T-sixth)
  8. Dean McVie — Three reps (T-sixth)
  9. Steve Coyne — Three reps (T-sixth)
  10. Jonas Bertschinger — Two reps

Carry & Push Medley

Athletes were allotted one minute to carry a 113-kilogram sandbag and a 125-kilogram sandbag and push a sled 15 meters each, totaling the 45-meter course as quickly as possible.

Sandbag Toss

With only 45 seconds each, athletes tossed six implements weighing 13 to 20 kilograms over a 4.6-meter bar as fast as possible.

  2. Josh Kowalewski — Six in 24.16 seconds
  3. Chris Harper — Five in 13.94 seconds
  4. Tommy Lovell — Five in 14.95 seconds

  7. Dean McVie — Three in 14.44 seconds
  8. Finlay Mercer — Three in 18.23 seconds

Wrecking Ball Hold

Athletes held a 250-kilogram wrecking ball in a sumo hold for as long as possible.

Athletes had one minute to load the six stones weighing 102 to 159 kilograms as fast as possible.
