Colten Mertens and Mirjam von Rohr Back on Top for CrossFit Open 25.2

Can they pull off the clean sweep?

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Colten Mertens and Mirjam von Rohr are this week’s winners of the CrossFit Open workout.

  • For an unprecedented third time, von Rohr, the Swiss super athlete, and Mertens, the world’s fittest pig farmer, sat atop the worldwide leaderboard at the close of 25.2. This comes just a week after the duo pulled off the 25.1 win.

Mertens was 15 seconds faster than second-place Austin Hatfield, who was two seconds faster than third-place Jace Peck.

Von Rohr bested second-place finisher Erica Folo by 10 seconds. Folo, in turn, was one second faster than Anikha Greer in third. For the second straight week, Fee Saghafi and Colin Bosshard finished in the top five.

Remind me: Open workout 25.2 was a repeat of 22.3 back in 2022. The first time around, Mertens recorded the fourth-fastest time of 4:24. That was relatively far off from Scott Tetlow, who won the original at a blazing 4:07.

Three years later, Mertens shaved off 23 seconds, setting the new world record with a ludicrous time of 4:01.

While von Rohr’s time of 4:18 was 10 seconds faster than Folo, the following seven places were separated by only nine seconds.

Von Rohr completed 25.2 a full minute and 37 seconds faster than back in 2022, showing her rapid growth as an athlete in the last three years.

  • That said, Mal O’Brien’s 22.3 time of 4:11 still stands as the fastest ever for the women on this workout.

With most of the top athletes going unbroken, it came down to cycle speed and transition time.

In a workout where every second can mean dozens of places on the leaderboard, winning by 10-plus seconds makes the two top times all the more impressive.

Fast Facts: Only one other athlete in the history of the Open has won the first two workouts.

Was it Fraser? Toomey? Briggs? Nope, it was Nicolai Duus in 2018. The Danish athlete won 18.1 and 18.2, then went on to place 683rd overall.

The same pairing of male and female athletes has won an Open workout just two other times — and it’s been a while.

  • Annie Thorisdottir and Rich Froning both won 11.1 and 12.2.
  • Sam Briggs and Josh Bridges both won 14.5 and 16.5 (which happened to be the same workout).

Von Rohr and Mertens have done it three times in the past year, winning 24.1, 25.1, and now 25.2. However, one has yet to win without the other.

2025 CrossFit Open Leaderboard After 25.2

Women

  1. Mirjam von Rohr – 2 points
  2. Fee Saghafi – 7 points
  3. Alazne Egiazabal – 13 points

Men

  1. Colten Mertens – 2 points
  2. Colin Bosshard – 6 points
  3. Jeff Adler – 9 points

The big picture: The best Open finish ever by an athlete was Mal O’Brien in 2022, with a nearly perfect four total points.

  • She placed first, second, and first for an average finish of 1.3.

The best finish for men was Rich Froning back in 2014, with a total of 18 points over five weeks, for an average finish of 3.6.

No one has ever gone undefeated in a CrossFit Open. This week, both Mertens and von Rohr have the opportunity to make history again.
