Over the weekend, the 153rd Scottish Highland Gathering and Games took place in Pleasanton, California. Every year, the Games bring thousands of event-goers together to celebrate a weekend of heritage and sport. One of the special events and guests to appear at this year’s Games was none other than the 2018 World’s Strongest Man Hafthor Bjornsson who was attempting to break his current Weight Over Bar World Record.
If you’re a Bjornsson fan, then more than likely you already know that the Weight Over Bar event could be considered one of his specialities. In fact, it seems like Bjornsson breaks this record at least once a year. In the fall of September 2017, Bjornsson made a big statement by topping his previous 19’5″ Weight Over Bar World Record with this 19’9″ toss at the Loon Mountain Highland Games in New Hampshire.
Then fast forward a couple months to March 2018 at the Arnold Classic, and Bjornsson, who was hot off a Arnold Strongman Classic win pushed the World Record a tiny bit further hitting a 20′ toss.
And now all of this brings us to the focal point of this article, aka Bjornsson’s new World Record. At the Scottish Highland Gathering and Games, Bjornsson pushed his World Record a bit further with a 20’1″ toss, which looked pretty easy judging from the video below.
Bjornsson’s new World Record is below; for viewers having trouble seeing it on mobile, it can also be found here.

In Bjornsson’s Instagram video’s description he writes, “A New World Record in weight over bar with 56lbs. This is the highest that anyone has ever thrown, 56lb weight over 20.1 foot bar.”
For additional context to the impressiveness of the above feat, Bjornsson literally threw what a normal six year old weighs over 20 feet in the air. At the very start of 2018, Bjornsson stated that this year would be his, and we have to agree with that statement. Below, we’ve linked all of Bjornsson’s 2018 accomplishing thus far.
