Meg Reardon, John-Paul Hethcock, and Invictus X all earned big wins at the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge in Washington, D.C and with that have all punched their tickets to the 2019 CrossFit Games in August.
Reardon, who qualified for the CrossFit Games in 2016 and placed 33rd overall, had her work cut out for her on Sunday at D.C. Armory. Dani Speegle was the heavy favorite going into the weekend, having already qualified for the 2019 CrossFit Games, and even chalked up five wins before the last event. On Sunday, though, it was Reardon’s show. Going into the final event Reardon trailed Speegle by six points, but found her way to the top in the ring muscle-ups and heavy squat snatches to take second in the last event.
Speegle had to take a breather several times on Sunday, which allowed Reardon to snatch the overall victory. Reardon finished with 794 points, Speegle took second with 790 points and Katie Trombetta finished in third with 739 points.
According to The Barbell Spin, Reardon may not accept her invite to the CrossFit Games and may be considering going team.

John-Paul Hethcock also made a powerful statement with his performance on Sunday afternoon.
Hethcock entered the final event without a single victory all weekend and wasn’t even supposed to be at the MAAC. Taylor Self withdrew from the MAAC due to injury, so Hethcock was granted an invite. Hethcock had a shot in the final event with his top-five results in the first nine scored events, but next to him was some of the best competition in the game – Samuel Kwant and Will Moorad. Hethcock went from not even supposed to be competing in D.C. to now earning a spot for the first time at the 2019 CrossFit Games. Kwant finished in second place with 676 points and Moorad clinched third place with 668 points.

On Sunday, Invictus X started the day on pace for the title with a first place finish in Lazer Tag. They went on to finish in third place on Bridge 4, which was enough to clinch the overall win. Invictus X finished second at the Games in 2018 and now is set to compete at the 2019 CrossFit Games.
