The French Throwdown finished up on Sunday in Paris, France. CrossFit athletes Jonne Koski, Jacqueline Dahlstrom, and Team CrossFit Invictus Boston all earned major wins.
The French Throwdown was a highly anticipated event, scheduled as the final CrossFit Sanctionals™ ahead of the CrossFit Games this August. The French Throwdown was an action packed three-day competition from Friday, June 28 through Sunday, June 30th at the Vélodrome National.
Here’s how things went down in Paris.
Men’s Pro Winner: Jonne Koski
It’s hard to forget that last year, Koski, a four-time CrossFit Games athlete actually withdrew from the 2018 CrossFit Open. That year was the first season in five years that he didn’t compete in the Open. Since then, Koski has made it very clear that the year tending to his injuries as majorly paid off. He finished in first place at the French Throwdown with 770 points.
He has already qualified for the 2019 Games (ranking 1st for Finland), so the invite to the Games was rewarded to Josh Miller from the United States. Miller finished in third place behind Koski and William Georges of France who both previously qualified.
Women’s Pro Winner: Jacqueline Dahlstrom
Dahlstrom already picked up a major win this year placing first at the Reykjavik CrossFit Championship in May, and now can add the French Throwdown title to her impressive season.
Even before the Reykjavik CrossFit Championship, Dahlstrom had previously qualified for the Games through the Open. She finished on top in Paris with 740 points. Carrie Beamer from the United States finished in second place, and Eik Glyfadottir earned third place. Since the first three women’s elite finishers already qualified for the Games, the invite was passed down to France’s Sabrina Caron.
Pro Team Winner: CrossFit Invictus Boston
Invictus Boston were a team we wrote about to watch out for at the French Throwdown, and they did not disappoint. After finishing in second place at the Reykjavik CrossFit Championships, and putting on an impressive performance at the Granite Games recently, the Boston team can finally celebrate their Sanctionals win.
Invictus Boston snagged first place with 892 points, thanks to the efforts of teammates Meg Reardon, Craig Kenney, Tola Morakinyo, and Kelsey Kiel. Team Romwod Meat Squad earned second place, and CrossFit Mayhem Independence finished in third.
Now that Josh Miller, Sabrina Caron, and Invictus Boston have all earned their official invites to the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games, the countdown begins! We’ll be providing an updated leaderboard soon with all of the athletes set to compete at the Games in August.
