The action picked up in London both in the water and on land. The second day of Strength in Depth UK started with rowing and finished with a lot of reps. The men, women, and teams competing are likely feeling the effects of a long day of competition but must get ready for two final events on Sunday. Here’s a Saturday summary of the events in London.
Regatta SiD
The day started with a rowing event but not on rowing machines. The athletes competed at Royal Docks Adventure which is a local water activity center. UK athlete David Shorunke won the event on the men’s side while overall leader Lukas Hogberg placed 2nd. 3rd place went to Bronislaw Olenkowicz.
As for the ladies, Laura Horvath would be victorious in this event followed by Lois Smith and Camilla Salomonsson Hellman finishing in 3rd place.
Creeping Death
Creeping Death was a workout that included 100 wall ball shots, 75 toes to bar, work on the assault bike, dumbbell shoulder presses, and walking lunges with one dumbbell overhead. It had a time cap of 20 minutes. This is where Mat Fraser made his move. He started the day in 2nd place overall but took this win with a time of 7 minutes, 54 seconds. He finished the event almost 30 seconds ahead of silver finisher Giorgos Karavis. Hogberg did finish third but as a result Fraser scored 12 more points in this event.
On the women’s side, Horvath and Gabriela Migala tied for the win in this event with both finishing in a time of 14 minutes, 58 seconds. The next highest finisher was Haley Adams who was able to complete the workout 35 seconds later.
Clean Bandit
The third and final event for Saturday was Clean Bandit which was another timed event. Athletes had to do 150 total double unders with a ladder of 5 weights of cleans for 10 reps each. The Fittest Man on Earth once again took the win by completing the event in less than 6 minutes. The event had a 10 minute cap. Olenkowicz was the runner-up on the men’s side followed by the UK’s Zack George. Hogberg slipped to 20th in this event which allowed Fraser to conclude Saturday with a 67 point overall lead.
The ladies delivered on this workout as well. Horvath finished the event in a time of 5 minutes, 11 seconds which was fastest on either side of the field. That results in her maintaining the overall leader over 2nd place Migala. She finished this event in 8th place.
The runner-up in Clean Bandit was American Kelsey Kiel with Hellman rounding out the Top 3.
