Watch Annie Thorisdottir Tackle CrossFit Open Workout 20.1

Annie Thorisdottir will be sharing Open workout videos every week!

Throughout the next five weeks Annie Thorisdottir will be publishing videos each week of her tackling the CrossFit Open workouts. Open Workout 20.1 was announced on Thursday night, and like Thorisdottir promised, a video of her crushing the workout has went up!

Thorisdottir is a two-time Reebok CrossFit Games champion and a 10-time Reebok CrossFit Games competitor. It goes without saying, but she knows a thing or two about the sport, so we’re particularly excited to see her bless the community with her knowledge and tips throughout the duration of the 2020 CrossFit Open.

On Friday, she shared a YouTube video of her tackling Open Workout 20.1. About 45 seconds into the video, Thorisdottir starts the workout.

CrossFit Open Workout 20.1

10 Rounds

  • 8 Ground-to-Overhead (95 lbs for men, 65 lbs for women)
  • 10 Bar Facing Burpees

Time Cap: 15-minutes

Thorisdottir’s Tips

She finished under 10 minutes, but looked completely floored after the workout. She said at minute 9:45 into the video, “It was really hard.” That being said, she still crushed it and once she caught her breath she offered some incredibly useful tips.

  • Practice burpees during the warm-up. By practicing burpees before the workout itself, it will give you a leg up in knowing what kind of burpees you’re going to do. Thorisdottir mentioned making a decision before hand as to if you are going to want to step, jump, or turn in the air.
  • Take a chance. Thorisdottir suggested being fearless and taking a chance to pick up the bar sooner than you want to. This workout is a lung burner, so just getting after it and finding time to breathe later.
  • Pace it. Thorisdottir mentioned that she started faster than she planned too. This caused her to hit her threshold at about six rounds in. “I’m okay with my time, but I slowed down too much on round seven and round nine,” she said int he video.

It’s awesome to see some of the biggest athletes in CrossFit tackling these workouts and offering videos with tips and tricks to the public. Thorisdottir closed her video with a really good point about Open Workout 20.1, “Everyone can do this workout!”
