Chalk up your hands, and roll out your muscles, because this weekend a newly sanctioned CrossFit event — The Asia CrossFit Championship — is coming to Shanghai, China.
The Asia CrossFit Championship is a three-day competition being held from April 27th to April 29th. Athletes from all over the world will compete for an invite to the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games.
Less than a month ago, the official roster was revealed and shared on The Morning Chalk Up after the online qualifier for the Asia CrossFit Championship in January. The online qualifier required five scored workouts throughout an 18-day period. After a thorough review and verification process, 40 teams, 69 individual men and 49 individual women received official invites.
While we really won’t know for certain who all will be attending to the Asia CrossFit Championship until this weekend, there have already been a few major names confirmed.
According to The Barbell Spin, Kristin Holte, a five-time CrossFit Games veteran, will be competing in Shanghai. Also, Brent Fikowsk, three-time CrossFit Games athlete, is another big name who was also listed as attending. The Asia CrossFit Championship Instagram account has been actively sharing athletes and teams who have confirmed they will be going.
Although the Asia CrossFit Championship Instagram account mentioned Pip Malone will be competing, however, Malone confirmed with BarBend on Monday that she won’t be. “I am not heading to China now unfortunately,” Malone said.
Alethea Boon, a four-year CrossFit Games competitor, told BarBend that she will be competing in Shanghai. “Got the visa just in time,” Boon said.
On Saturday, a full day of individual and team events will take place at the Shanghai Luwan Gymnasium in Shanghai. If you’re wondering when your favorite teams and individual athletes will be competing, or are curious about the specific event details, and want to keep up with the official leaderboard, look no further than the Asia CrossFit Championship’s official website.
