Bodybuilding isn’t just a young man’s game. Anyone can commit to training and dieting to showcase the best version of their physiques on a bodybuilding stage. Case in point: Look no further than 73-year-old Romanian bodybuilder Vasile Serban.
Serban has been competing in bodybuilding for several years. His most recent show was the 2024 IFBB Elite Amateur European Championships, held on May 1-6, 2024, in Santa Susanna, Spain. Serban competed in the Men’s Bodybuilding Over-65 category and was deemed the best of three athletes on the stage.

Serban shared photos from his competition on his Instagram page. Known by some fans as “the ageless bodybuilder,” Serban offered advice for those who wish to emulate his success.
Perseverance, a healthy lifestyle, and self-respect can be the path to a long, productive life. It’s never too early to exercise!
Serban is not new to the bodybuilding scene. According to Ziua de Constanta, Serban held 18 national championships before this one and has placed as high as fourth at a world championship contest.
Bodybuilding isn’t the only stage where Serban has showcased his physique. Check out the personal trainer’s appearance on Romania’s Got Talent from 2019 below:
Alba Press reports that Serban started competing at age 54, which gave him nearly two decades of competitive experience. He told the publication that nutrition and hard training are the keys to his success.
- “A month before the contest, I changed my diet,” shared Serban. “I do sports seven days [a week]; a workout will last longer (two and a half hours), and I lose fat so that the muscles can be clearly seen.”
Serban shared peaking tips that help him showcase the definition and musculature that many people half his age would likely enjoy showing off.
- “Three days before a competition, I don’t eat any salt, and I only drink one liter of water a day, compared to the four to five liters I drink on a normal day, with training,” revealed Serban. “In total, I consume around 3,500 calories a day.”

Serban avoids fried foods and occasionally treats himself to a glass of wine. As of this writing, there is no word on when Serban will compete next, but the personal trainer shared on his social media that he is back in the gym.
