Two World Championships simply weren’t enough for 16 year-old weightlifting phenom CJ Cummings. On Saturday, the 69kg lifter easily won the American Open Championship on his way to several new American records, including a 183kg to break his own Junior & Senior American record by 1kg.
Cummings went 6 for 6, ending with a 138kg snatch (new Junior American Record) and 321kg Junior Total Record. Cummings swept gold in the snatch, clean & jerk, and total.
But his 183kg really stole the show. Watch below, video courtesy of @liftinglife.
And here’s Cummings’ 138kg snatch.
All six lifts of his lifts were recorded on the USA Weightlifting Live Stream, and they’re embedded below.
We don’t know exactly what’s in store next year for the reigning Youth and Junior World Champion. Will he go up a weight class? Does he have his sights set on a 200kg clean & jerk before turning 18?
But we’re sure excited to watch as his still-young weightlifting career develops!
