Now that the 2025 CrossFit Open live announcements are over, we can see the complete picture of the livestream numbers and spot the trends.
CrossFit Spur hosted the announcement of 25.3 in Glenmont, NY, near the site of the 2025 Games, and featured the first-, second-, and fourth-place finishers of last year’s Games: James Sprague, Dallin Pepper, and Jayson Hopper.
They were joined by NFL quarterback and longtime CrossFitter Tyson Bagent, who announced the workout and then joined in on the fun.
One big thing: The maximum concurrent views (how many people were watching at once) for 25.3 were down substantially from 25.2 and came in lower than any of the Open announcements in the last three years. However, the overall livestream views (after 24 hours) for 25.3 were ____.
The details: The 25.3 announcement recorded a maximum concurrent viewership of 84,555.
Viewership usually peaks during the workout’s unveiling, but it spiked this time as the three elite athletes raced to the finish on the rower.
25.3 | 25.2 | 25.1 | 24.3 | 24.2 | 24.1 | |
Max Concurrent | 84,555 | 135,078 | 125,034 | 112,802 | 206,012 | 161,127 |
Total Views (24 hours) | 524,056 | 601,421 | 707,392 | 1,030,276 | 835,042 | 872,651 |
- The max concurrent average for the 2022 Open was 96,048; in 2023, it was 120,872. It rose to 159,980 in 2024. The 2025 Open clocked in at 114,889.
- The total views (24 hours) per week average for the 2024 Open was 912,656. That was up from 619,224 in 2023. Total views (after 24 hours) for 25.3 came in at 524,056. That’s a difference of 506,220 views from 24.3. The average 24-hour total views per week during the 2025 Open was 610,956.
Tracking the trends: Typically, we see an uptick in viewership throughout the Open, but this has not been the case for the last two years. 25.3 dropped 37% from 25.2.
- That is a substantial decrease, but not as big as last year’s 45% drop from 24.2 to 24.3.
This week’s announcement that CrossFit is for sale, or possibly the chatter about the workout being leaked early, may have affected viewership. Or maybe the Bears fans were still in hibernation.
What they’re saying: The friends and fierce competitors had a lot to say in the post-game interviews and cool-down show.
Bella Martin introduced Jayson Hopper as the king of the Echo bike. Hopper insinuated afterward that may have been the motivation Pepper needed to win, saying, “You put a fire in that man’s butt.”
None of the four men who did the workout thought Pepper’s score would be beaten before the Monday submission deadline. Dave Castro asked Pepper who he thought could give him a run for his money.
- “The two guys who were next to me,” he responded, referring to Sprague and Hopper.
He then asked if the current Open leader, Colten Mertens, could beat him.
- Pepper, who is within striking distance of winning the Open overall, looked into the camera and said, “Good luck, Colten. You can have the first two, but you’re not getting this one.”
The bottom line: After recording the lowest live views since 2022, the video had been seen ____ times after 24 hours.
The three 2025 Open announcements featured some of the sport’s best. However, the low viewership may indicate that work remains to regain the trust of the worldwide community.
