We have all the respect in the world for the photographers and videographers who bring us closer to the CrossFit action that we cover every year.
Our words come alive with the images they create, and the moments they capture evoke emotions that resonate with us and help us build connections.
I also started my photography journey in 2024 and received invaluable advice, instruction, and support from many of these generous, creative people.
- And we have bonded in the trenches of many media rooms.
The support I have experienced from photographers truly represents why we all got involved in this passionate world of competitive fitness.
There are many awe-inspiring photos out there from this past year, so we asked some of our friends who have worked with us to choose their favorite photo they took in 2024. It’s a tall task to narrow it down to one for such a talented group of individuals, but the results below speak for themselves.
Our Favorite CrossFit Photos of 2024
Carlos Fleury
Carlos Fleury worked with us at the 2024 CrossFit Games, four days of raw emotion where photographers, creators, and writers demonstrated professionalism, stoicism, and grace.
- Fleury chose this photo of the award ceremony on Sunday at the Games as one of his favorites and most meaningful of the year.
Marius Vérité
Marius Vérité on his photo choice: “This is a picture I took of Victor Hoffer at TYR Wodapalooza. He was not competing but was watching from the VIP area, arms on the fence, looking at the floor. I was in the media pit, looking around. (I do that a lot at competitions, to catch moments you might not notice while being focused on the floor action.)”
- “Victor is one of the athletes I know on a more personal level, so I immediately recognized him up there. It was raining, I took the picture, and all the planets aligned to create this shot. That is, to this day, one of my favorite pictures I’ve ever taken,” he concluded.
Sebastian Vallejo
Sebastian Vallejo on his photo choice: “Head held high, vision set on the impossible. The GOAT doesn’t follow paths – she creates them. #builtdifferent #onlyone.” (Photo taken at the 2024 Rogue Invitational.)
Sebastian Castillo
Sebastian Castillo on his photo choice: “I love it because it’s Dallin jumping into the scene as a serious contender. I feel like this was the moment that he crossed the threshold.” (Photo taken at the 2024 Syndicate Crown.)
Heather Weir
During TYR Wodapalooza SoCal, Heather Weir was shooting for Known and Knowable. After one of the workouts finished, Gui Malheiros was still at the top of the rope when he turned to the crowd in celebration. “I’m pretty sure I’m the only one who caught Gui in that moment, so I love that one,” Weir said.
Niclas Ericsson
Niclas Ericsson on his photo choice: “To see BKG qualify for his 11th consecutive CrossFit Games is amazing and shows his capacity as an athlete.” (Photo taken during the 2024 Europe Semifinal.)
Anthony Ledesma
Anthony Ledesma was shooting at the Masters CrossFit Games by Legends when Will Moorad donned his Lazar Ðukić jersey instead of his own for the final event. He won convincingly, becoming the Fittest on Earth in the 35-39 men’s division.
Sara Ines Chew
Sara Ines Chew on her photo choice: “I took this photo during the first event of the Teams competition at the CrossFit Games 2024. What makes this shot so special to me is how Anita Martinez, the Mexican athlete from the Queretaro Team, stands out with her strength and determination, even while surrounded by so many athletes. Her and her team’s hard work paid off, securing an impressive 14th place finish.”
Dallas Hamm
At the 2024 West Coast Classic, Justin Medeiros had some ground to make up after day one. Dallas Hamm, Medeiros’s friend, training partner, and media creator, took this photo as Medeiros sat in the warm-up area, focused on the task. The only time he held the lead was the only time it counts – at the end of the weekend.
Susana Rodriguez
Susana Rodriguez on her photo choice: “Capturing the culmination of hard work, trust, and triumph after a year of returning to the competition floor. Walking with Haley Adams through this journey has been about witnessing her growth as a person and athlete, as well as my own growth as a photographer.” (Photo taken at the 2024 Rogue Invitational.)
Chad Mueller
At the 2024 CrossFit Games, Chad Mueller was shooting for his, Patrick Clark, and Brian Friend’s B. Friendly Fitness brand. The photo was taken during the track and field event under the Friday night lights. It shows Danielle Brandon’s power and speed, so much so that she appears to be floating.
Scott Freymond
The TYR Cup at Wodapalooza SoCal was my favorite event I’ve covered, hands down. Seeing the collection of individual athletes come together to work as a team was a joy to witness.
Pat Vellner won the Lazar Ðukić MVP award, accepting the trophy with tears in his eyes. Ðukić was the first to respond to his invite to SoCal. This photo was taken during the beach run portion of Event 4. “Uncle Pat” is making his way back under the Huntington Beach pier, cool, calm, and collected.
