After Sawyer Klatt’s world record deadlift, a second all-time mark was broken at the 2023 WRPF American Pro 2 meet in Manassas, VA. Dorrell Petties (140 KG) has set the tested all-time world record in the deadlift for his weight class with a pull of 401 kilograms (884 pounds). The lifter from Canada actually set the record on the second of his three attempts.

Petties approached the loaded barbell with a conventional stance and took a mixed grip outside of his thighs. He wore a singlet and positioned his weight belt high up on his torso. Once he began the pull, it was a consistent speed until he was near lockout, when there was a slight delay. His left hand appeared to be opening up, but he received the down command to return the barbell to the floor.
Three white lights later, the record was his. It had previously belonged to Cenk Koçak, who had pulled 400 kilograms at the 2023 TPSSF Türkiye Powerlifting Şampiyonasi Sonuçlari meet in Turkey.
During the stream, WRPF announcer Garrett Fear reported that Petties’ lift wasn’t just a new all-time world record for tested lifters in his weight class — it was also the biggest drug-tested deadlift in Canadian history regardless of weight class.
Petties attempted to push the record even further to 410 kilograms (904 pounds) on his final attempt, but he couldn’t get there. Nonetheless, he broke 900 kilograms for his total across all three lifts. He went seven-for-nine on the day, and the summary of his three biggest lifts is below.
- Squat: 320 kilograms (705.6 pounds)
- Bench Press: 185 kilograms (407.9 pounds)
- Deadlift: 401 kilograms (884 pounds)
- Total: 906 kilograms (1,997.5 pounds)
His squat and bench press tied his previous best in competition. This was his second meet of 2023, and it was his first WRPF meet in the United States.
Action from the American Pro 2 continues throughout the weekend until Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023. Livestreams and replays are available on the WRPF YouTube channel, courtesy of A1 Digital.
