Mark Wahlberg’s weight continues to yo-yo. It is intentional, of course, as the actor packed on 30 pounds for his role in the yet-to-be-released film Father Stu — a biopic about boxer-turned-priest Stuart Long — directed by Rosalind Ross.
The two-time Oscar-nominated Wahlberg took to his Instagram page on Aug. 9, 2021, to share a video of himself performing a set of toes-to-bar. Although his caption did not reference the sudden change in his physique, it was clear that he has dropped a significant amount of the weight he gained and his abs are visible again after 14 weeks of training. One can assume dropping the weight was a welcome experience for Wahlberg, who admitted that eating 11,000 calories a day is not fun. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Wahlberg said:
I had to consume for two weeks, 7,000 calories, and for another two weeks, 11,000 calories — and it was fun for about an hour.
In that same interview, Wahlberg expressed how much easier it is for him to drop weight than to gain weight since, with the former, “you just tough it out.” To maintain the caloric surplus during his bulking phase, Wahlberg had to eat every three hours.
It wasn’t fun.
Even at 50 years old, Wahlberg is still capable of these drastic physique changes via 4 a.m. training sessions in his home gym and adjusting his caloric intake. How shredded Wahlberg plans to get this time around is unclear, but he has proven himself capable of dropping a lot of weight quickly when he needs to.
In February 2020 interview with Ellen Degeneres on Ellen, Wahlberg shared how he lost 10 pounds in five days via a “bone broth fast,” where he drank the broth of boiled animal bones. Of course, that kind of weight loss in such a short period is drastic. Fortunately, his recent slim down was done over a more sustainable period of time and the results from a visual standpoint are undeniable — his abs are back.
