The Post-CrossFit Games Top 100 Worldwide Ranking – Gabriela Migała and Jeff Adler on Top

The rankings account for everything from the 2023 CrossFit Open through the 2024 Games.

Written by Mike Halpin
Last updated on November 5th, 2024

For the last two seasons, the CrossFit Games team has released a Worldwide Ranking (WWR) based on its own scoring system.

  • The last update to the WWR was on June 5, 2024, shortly after the conclusion of the Semifinals.

Along with the last top 100 women and men that the CrossFit Games team released in the early summer, they also released a points matrix for the Semifinals and for the CrossFit Games.

  • The current official WWR and the points matrix can be found here.

With the withdrawals of Games athletes after Lazar Đukić’s death in Fort Worth, the rumors of a new season structure for 2025, and much of the community waiting on the results of the third-party investigation, there is every reason under the sun to explain why CrossFit hasn’t released an updated worldwide ranking since June.

That said, we went ahead and updated it for them — unofficially, of course. Here are the top 15 women as it currently stands.

On the women’s side, Gabi Migała, who placed second at the 2024 CrossFit Games, is the new points leader to end the 2024 season.

  • Migała was third going into the Games, as listed on CrossFit’s current rankings, but leapfrogged Laura Horvath and Emma Lawson.

Note: Horvath only received 50 total points from the Games with a listed rank of 39th place after withdrawing from the competition on Friday morning.

Now, you may be saying, “This can’t be right. Tia won. Shouldn’t she be in first place?”

I wrote about the possibility that someone could win the Games but not be in the top spot on the WWR in an article called “Breaking The Worldwide Rankings at the 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games,” published by BFriendly Fitness before the 2023 Games.

Here’s what I wrote:

“When the Worldwide Ranking (WWR) was announced by Adrian Bozman and Dave Eubanks back in January, a curious statement was alluded to about the ‘Fittest on Earth’ vs. the #1 athlete on the WWR after the Games:

‘[The] winner of the Games will always be the points winner for a given season.‘

Dave Eubanks – Senior Manager of Competition, CrossFit LLC“

Based on the points awarded, this makes some sense: the winner of the Games will get 10,000 points, more than an athlete winning their region’s Semifinal (4,000 points), the Quarterfinals (2,000 points), and the worldwide Open (1,000 points) combined. In the announcement podcast, Bozman said, “[An athlete] cannot be out-pointed by someone who wins the Open.”

The “will always” statement doesn’t follow that of similar systems in other professional sports like tennis or golf, where the winner of the championship event of the year may not be the points leader when all points are allocated over the season (or in CrossFit’s case the two season look-back period).

I followed up with Eubanks, and he reiterated this sentiment while also acknowledging the possibility of someone winning the Games but not being #1 overall, which was possible in 2024.

In just year two — though admittedly not a year anyone would have wanted or expected — we are seeing this occur.

So, What Gives?

Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr is the Fittest on Earth for the seventh year, but she is seventh on the WWR.

Here’s why:

The WWR looks back at two full seasons of eight official CrossFit events, so this current ranking includes:

  • 2023 Open | 2023 Quarterfinals | 2023 Semifinals | 2023 CrossFit Games
  • 2024 Open | 2024 Quarterfinals | 2024 Semifinals | 2024 CrossFit Games

Being a rolling two-year, eight-event lookback, the points that Toomey-Orr had going into the Games included 10,000 points for winning the 2022 CrossFit Games. However, once the 2024 Games occurred, those points were dropped, and her 2024 first-place finish gave her back the same 10,000 points, leaving her with a static 17,930 points.

The WWR is really just a ranking of elite consistency in the individual division for the two-year period.

  • Toomey-Orr received zero scores for the 2023 Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Games while she was pregnant and not competing. That means her scoring for the WWR only consisted of the points she had from the 2023 Open and the total of the 2024 season.

Compare this to the Ranking System that the Rogue Invitational has released, where athletes who choose to pause their individual division participation for maternity leave, competing in teams, or injury are awarded points. In the case of the 2024 Games, athletes who chose to withdraw from competition were also awarded additional points.

  • In these cases, Rogue averages the athlete’s previous three event point totals to arrive at a new score.

Example: Laura Horvath was awarded 828.75 points by Rogue for the 2024 CrossFit Games vs. 50 points based on the points matrix released by the Games team.

Congratulations to Gabi Migala for being the 2024 CrossFit WWR Champion and to Toomey-Orr for being the Fittest on Earth.

Jeff Adler remains in the top spot of the men’s WWR after withdrawing before the start of Day 2 of the Games, which gave him a final finishing spot of 36th overall.

  • Thirty-sixth at the Games is awarded 100 points.

The Fittest on Earth, James Sprague, jumps 19 spots from 23rd to fourth overall on the WWR, receiving 10,000 points for his first time winning the Games.

This mirrors the scenario seen in the women’s division of the Fittest on Earth not being the WWR Champion for the year.

  • Sprague really turned it up in 2024, having received just 500 points for the 2023 Games and now 10K for this year.

With the two-season look back (if that continues in 2025), Sprague would likely move ahead of other athletes as their 2023 Games finishes are rolled off.

Lazar Đukić, who tragically passed during Event 1 of the 2024 CrossFit Games, is still listed as he would have been 11th overall on the WWR. He was fifth in the world in these rankings, going into the Games after earning his (back-to-back) Europe Semifinal title.

Đukić would have celebrated his 29th birthday just last week.

  • The full top 100 for men and women can be found here (with position differential listed).
