Terrence Ruffin Nears 200 Pounds In His Off-Season

The 2022 Arnold Classic champion is bulking to bring a bigger physique to the 2022 Olympia.

The 2022 Classic Physique Arnold Classic champion Terrence Ruffin continues refining his physique to challenge three-time Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead. On June 22, 2022, Ruffin took to his YouTube channel to share a video of his heavy pull day at Binous 1 Gym in Dubai, UAE, with bodybuilding and diet coach Hyacine Nassir.

The colorful gym’s walls were lined with giant photos of some of bodybuilding’s greatest athletes, both active and retired, including William Bonac, Dexter Jackson, Kevin Levrone, Flex Wheeler, Dorian Yates, and reigning two-time Mr. Olympia Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay, to name a few. After getting some face time with fans, Ruffin trained his back and then practiced his posing. Check it out below:

Terrence Ruffin’s Pull Day

Ruffin began his workout with single-arm lat pulldowns with a supinated grip to open up his lats. He followed it up by performing the lat pulldowns with both arms. In his off-season, widening the lats seems to be a particular focus for Ruffin. He has appeared in several videos on social media with hypertrophy coach Joe Bennett discussing how Ruffin lines up the muscle fibers of his lats with the line of pull in each exercise.

Ruffin continued with single-arm lat pulldowns for his next movement, except he switched to a neutral grip. His machine of choice allowed him to draw his arm closer to his midline at the fully lengthened position, allowing Ruffin to get a better stretch on his lats between reps. Ruffin didn’t disclose his rep count, but it was apparent that he took his sets to failure.

The Arnold Classic champ’s third movement of the session was chest-supported T-bar rows. He wore lifting straps for this exercise and opened with three 20-kilogram weight plates on the T-bar. Again, the number of sets was not given, but Ruffin finished a set with four 20-kilogram weight plates before moving on.

Ruffin loaded up a barbell to target his erectors and performed stiff leg deadlifts. He disclosed that much of the back pain he battled for the past few years is gone. His only hurdle in training is a tender shoulder, but it only causes issues when he puts excess stress on it by moving further than his full range of motion.

Posing and Conditioning

Heading back to close-grip lat pulldowns, Ruffin was on camera performing three sets to failure. After completing all his back movements, Ruffin tackled preacher curls to target his biceps before hitting a posing session.

Ruffin is relatively heavy in this off-season. He fist-pumped as Nassir seemed pleased with Ruffin’s current structure.

That’s good news, we’re not too fat.

Nassir believes Ruffin will hit 200 pounds in this off-season but wants Ruffin to remain lean. This will set Ruffin up nicely for his 10-12 week prep for the 2022 Olympia weekend. Ruffin has finished as the runner-up in Classic Physique for the past two years. Perhaps this bulk will give him the size he needs to stop Bumstead from scoring a fourth consecutive Olympia title.
