Watch Tia-Clair Toomey Perform CrossFit Open Workout 22.1

February 28, 2022 by Phil Blechman

The 2022 CrossFit Open kicked off on Feb. 24, 2022, with the reigning five-time Fittest Woman on Earth® Tia-Clair Toomey announcing workout 22.1 on the live announcement. The first workout of the 2022 CrossFit season was a 15-minute AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) of a triplet comprised of wall walks, dumbbell snatches, and box jump overs. Competing out of Tennessee, speculation as to how Toomey would adjust to CrossFit workouts lingered following her weight gain while competing as a brakewoman for the Australian National Bobsled Team — which was successful in securing a team for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

2022 CrossFit Open Workout 22.1 — Rx’d

15-minute AMRAP of the following triplet:

  • 3 wall walks
  • 12 dumbbell snatches — Men: 50 pounds | Women: 35 pounds
  • 15 box jump-overs — Men: 24-inch box | Women: 20-inch box

Toomey ranked first worldwide at the end of the 2021 CrossFit Open and had a solid performance to kick off 2022 after dropping the bobsled weight. According to CrossFit‘s leaderboard, Toomey unofficially scored 375 total reps — or 12.5 rounds as each round was a total of 30 reps. Check out Toomey’s entire performance in the video below, courtesy of her YouTube channel:

After the workout, Toomey can be overheard talking to her training partner Brooke Wells that the trick with a workout like 22.1 is to “stay consistent.” Given that the time frame of 15 minutes is unchanged regardless of one’s pace, maintaining a rhythm that doesn’t gas the athlete out is likely to be beneficial when entering the later rounds.

The due date for all video submissions of workout 22.1 is Monday, Feb. 28, at 8 p.m. EST. Official scores will be updated after CrossFit HQ has had time to review submissions. At the time of this article’s publication, Toomey sits in third place unofficially on the CrossFit leaderboard. Only Emma Cary and Gabriella Migała rank above her.

The live announcement will occur in Ohio and feature reigning Fittest Man on Earth® Justin Medeiros going head-to-head against Saxon Panchik, and 2021 Dubai CrossFit Championships winner Laura Horvath will take on 2021 CrossFit Games champion (Girls 16-17) Emma Lawson.
