This is the second iteration in a row that the Weightlifting World Championships are being held in the United States. In 2015, the Championships took place in Houston, Texas, and in 2016, the Rio Olympics took place, so there was no World Championship.
After the recent announcement of nine IWF member nations being barred from this year’s competition, the playing field has now become more open. It’s going to be interesting to see who can capitalize on relatively wide-open field.
