What’s in Store for Week 3
Welcome to week 3. It’s a repeat. Athletes in Australia, Norway and Argentina squared off for the live announcement.
- Fun Fact: By breaking from a long-standing tradition to repeat a workout in the same week it was originally programmed (20.3 = 18.4), it means that a workout from the third week as never been repeated.
- Handstand push-ups (strict or kipping) have been in every Open since they were first programmed in 2015.
For time:
21 deadlifts (225/155)
21 handstand push-ups
15 deadlifts (225/155)
15 handstand push-ups
9 deadlifts (225/155)
9 handstand push-ups
21 deadlifts (315/205)
50-ft. handstand walk
15 deadlifts (315/205)
50-ft. handstand walk
9 deadlifts (315/205)
50-ft. handstand walk
Time cap: 9 min.
One big thing: 18.4 is probably one of the most controversial Open workouts of the past several years, mainly over the new standard instituted for the handstand push-ups back in 2018. With increased internet scrutiny over reps and penalties being assessed, this is sure to stir the pot.
- Armen Hammer not wasting any time, via Instagram: “This awful and arbitrary handstand push-up standard is back and CrossFit should be embarrassed to be using it again.”
- Flashback to 2018, two big things come to mind: 1). a video of Brooke Wells missing the line on handstand push-ups reps surfaced and caused a lot of drama when HQ admitted that some were no reps but wouldn’t change her score, and 2). Jacob Heppner missing out on Regionals.
A quick recap from the live announcements.
