2023 IPF World Classic Championships Results

History was made, time and again, in Valetta, Malta

The 2023 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Classic Championships were held in Valetta, Malta, between June 11-18, 2023. There were seven long days of competition, and open world records fell in nearly every class.

There were historic performances in the women’s 84+KG class, with the IPF raw squat world record being broken four times, the IPF raw deadlift world record shattered twice, and the IPF raw total world record eclipsed three times. The men’s 74KG class was a similar story, with new names next to the IPF raw squat, raw deadlift, and raw total world records.

2023 IPF World Classic Championships — Best Lifter Awards

In addition to the world championship title in each weight class, all the lifters are scored on GL points*, and awards are given to the top three lifters, male and female.

*Note: The GL point formula is an attempt to compare the achievements of lifters of different body weights and is used by the IPF and its affiliates.

Best Lifter – Men

  1. Anatolii Novopismennyi (UKR) — 116.575 GL points
  2. Jonathan Cayco (USA) — 116.230 GL points
  3. Gustav Hedlund (SWE) — 114.679 GL points

Best Lifter – Women

  1. Natalie Richards (USA) — 122.179 GL points
  2. Carola Garra (ITA) — 122.096 GL points
  3. Amanda Lawrence (USA) — 120.399 GL points

2023 IPF World Classic Championships — Team Awards

National teams are also ranked on their performance, with points given for the placings their athletes achieved. Team USA was the clear leader in the men’s divisions, but it was neck and neck with Team France in the women’s division. The placings had to be given on the combined GL points score.

Best Team — Men

  1. USA — 57 points — 549.00 combined GL points
  2. France — 39 points — 534.09 combined GL points
  3. Sweden — 37 points — 559.33 combined GL points

Best Team — Women

  1. USA — 50 points — 589.25 combined GL points
  2. France — 50 points — 577.40 combined GL points
  3. New Zealand — 43 points — 554.30 combined GL points
