2023 World’s Strongest Viking Results — Johan Espenkrona Conquers

Espenkrona scores the first of his pro strongman career.

The day was Feb. 24, 2023, when 14 strongmen stepped onto the competitive battleground that was Vinstra, Norway, for the 2023 World’s Strongest Viking contest. The contest tested these goliaths across a range of six grueling events: the Viking Press, Boat Pull, Power Stairs, Wheel of Pain, Hercules Hold, and the Atlas Stones.

In a war against eventual runner-up Eric Dawson of the USA, Johan Espenkrona of Sweden emerged triumphant among his peers scoring 71 of a possible 84 points. Check out the full results below, followed by the results of each of the six individual events that comprised Espenkrona’s victory:

Seven different countries were represented in Norway. Sweden, USA, and the UK tied for the most representation with three competitors each. Finland and Norway were each represented by two strongmen.

Viking Press

The Viking Press event challenged each strongman to lockout as many reps as possible of 140 kilograms (308.7 pounds) in 60 seconds.

With a 60-second time limit, each strongman attempted to pull a 3,500-kilogram (7,716.2-pound) boat across a 30-meter course. The faster the time, the higher an athlete’s rank.
