2025 CrossFit Open Registration Numbers Climb Slowly

The numbers are going up — but not as fast as last year.

The Open begins in 16 days. Register here.

We are just two weeks away from the start of the 2025 CrossFit Open and more than halfway to the submission deadline for 25.1, on Monday, March 3.

  • That’s the date when we will have a complete picture of the total registrations for this year’s Open.

Before we get into what happens from here, a little housekeeping.

The daily CrossFit Open registration reporting has been running for 27 days, so it’s a good time to check in. I realized I never really went into what I’m sharing and what insights it brings.

The reporting I share each day on @known_knowable on Instagram is a check-in from four different angles:

  1. Count up from Day 0 to the final day of the registration period.
  2. Count down from the first day of the registration period to the final day.
  3. Prize purse funding.
  4. Total registration by Competitive Region.

Let’s focus today on “counting up” and “counting down.” I’ll address the other two after 25.1.

Count Up

This one was requested by a follower on Instagram. It was brought up that the countdown chart wouldn’t compare well since 2024 started with 20,982 registrations versus the 8,904 registrations in 2025.

  • I obliged, and I like the alternate view it gives versus the countdown version, which we will touch on in a bit.

At present, here are the last three days of numbers, when looked at from a Count Up perspective:

Day20252024DifferenceDiff %2025 Daily Growth2024 Daily Growth
2468,452106,700-38,248-35.85%2,2635,033
2570,506109,754-39,248-35.76%2,0543,054
2673,179113,103-39,924-35.30%2,6733,349

[Related: Best Rowing Machines]

When looking at these two years side by side, it’s clear that the total registration numbers were well past the 100,000 mark at this point in 2024. We are still not there for 2025.

  • The daily Instagram story gives most of what is shown above but doesn’t touch on the daily growth when side by side. During the last three days, the 2024 average growth was 3,812. We are currently averaging 2,230, which is a difference of -1,482.

This is what the daily growth looks like when 2024 and 2025 are compared:

So far, only day 14 and day 21 have a total daily growth greater than their 2024 counterpart.

Day20252024
143,3492,930
213,1772,995

In the same period, there were seven days in which the total registration — including individual, age groups, and adaptive — didn’t crack 2,000 total registrations in a 24-hour period.

Day20252024
41,7463,581
51,9442,575
61,9652,339
71,7433,143
81,9234,026
111,9492,234
181,9993,547

For 2024, there is no single day during the registration period before 24.1 where there were fewer than 2,200 daily registrations.

Excluding day one, the average daily growth so far for 2025 is 2,571/day. For the same period in 2024, it was 3,685/day. That’s a difference of -1,114/day.

Count Down

The “counting down” chart of the daily tracking is what it sounds like.

This is the same tracking that was done each day in 2024, and I see it as the best comparison.

From my understanding, this is what CrossFit HQ uses as well, but their version has all of the years of registration on it.

  • Note: For the 2022 season, that data was pulled by a different source for Morning Chalk Up and does not include Adaptive or the 14-15 and 55+ Age Groups as those are not part of the ‘Open divisions’ that are from 16-54 for men and women.

This is a better comparison because regardless of when Open registration starts, which has slightly different dates each year, the countdown always goes to the submission deadline of week one of “Open Workout XX.1.” Ultimately, that is what we build toward every year.

  • Note: The final total is after week three of the Open is finalized. CrossFit uses the final Open registration number at the end of the 25.3 submission deadline for the prize purse calculation. We will hit on that later.

The registration window is still open after the conclusion of week one, but it’s flat in comparison to the other days.

Former CrossFit HQ employees have confirmed that they operate under the understanding that the final 10-14 days are when registration really heats up.

At that time, HQ saw around 50% of total registrations. A subset majority of those registrations happen from the day before the first Open announcement through the registration deadline in week one.

Here is what 2024 looked like in the last days around the announcement through the submission deadline:

Here is what 15 and 10 days out looked like for 2022 through 2024 compared to their end total:

202420232022*
15 Days Out152,773137,902144,171
10 Days Out175,019163,377199,470
Announcement272,565273,150221,394
After Deadline342,792321,969276,149

* – Does not include adaptive or 14-15 and 55+ age groups.

  • As you can see, exponential growth occurred in those last few days, with registrations leaning more and more into the days after the announcement in 2023 and 2024.

We have refrained from any forecasting for this reason.

  • Note: The Open kicks off in 16 days, but based on the ‘Days Out’ from the submission deadline, we are currently at 20 Days. By this time next week, we should start to see what 15 and then 10 days out from the week one submission deadline looks like.

Let’s dive into this week’s numbers.

First, to set the table, here are some quick dates and info for the 2025 Open:

  • Registration started on January 15 at noon PT.
  • CrossFit Open Workout 25.1 starts on February 27 at noon PT.
  • CrossFit Open Workout 25.3 ends on March 17 at 5 p.m. PT.

That gives us 43 days during the registration period and 18 days once the Open starts.

The schedule can be found here, and you can register for the 2025 CrossFit Open here.

Open Report – Weekly Update 3

We are now 27 days into registration and 16 days until the Open 25.1 submission date. Data below is through day 26.

Based on competitive divisions, the current registration progress looks like this:

Based on competitive region, the current registration progress looks like this:

The registration total is currently growing by an average of around 2.57k each day after the initial day one total of 8,904.

But what does that look like compared to previous years?

During the same days in 2024, the average day-over-day addition of registrations was 3.68k after the initial day one of 20,982.

  • The chart above, which is a year-over-year comparison chart counting down to the submission date for XX.1, now has 2023 data as well as 2022. Note: 2022 only includes the ‘Open’ division, not the 14-15 or 55+ age group divisions or Adaptive divisions.

As of the publishing of this article, that would equate to $731,790.00 in total prize money divided into the following categories:

Games – Individual$358,577.10
Games – Teams$73,179.00
Open – Individual$36,589.50
Open – Affiliate$146,358.00
Masters Games$73,179.00
Adaptive Games$21,953.70
Online Semifinal$21,953.70

This will be our weekly monitor as the Open approaches and we go through to 25.3. I will also post daily check-ins at @known_knowable on Instagram.
