On Mar. 6, 2022, during the Rogue Record Breakers (RRB) exhibition, strongman athlete Charles (Trey) Mitchell set a new timed record in the Men’s Forward Hold event. The event required competitors to hold aloft a 65-pound Thor’s Hammer replica for time, and Mitchell set a new record of 60.72 seconds, besting the previous record of 49.24 seconds.

With a $5,000 prize on the line for the winner, the competitors were tasked with holding the hammer aloft for a minimum of 35 seconds, with victory going to whichever athlete could maintain their grip and posture the longest.
The athletes were required to maintain stillness with the hammer between shoulder and eye level with their arms completely locked out. Further, they had to keep their heads, upper backs, and hips in contact with a wooden post at all times.
Although some lifters opted to work with wrist wraps or a lifting belt for added stability, Mitchell took to the hammer without any assistive equipment whatsoever.

The 28-year-old made his first major competitive appearance at the 2016 Arnold Amateur Strongman World Championships, according to Strongman Archives. Since then, Mitchell has racked up several impressive national and international wins, as well as attended the World’s Strongest Man (WSM) competition.

Perhaps his most prestigious victory to date was his overall championship victory at the 2021 Shaw Classic, an event Mitchell won outright out of a field of 16 equally determined competitors. Only six years into his professional strongman career, Mitchell has already partaken in (or won) 17 domestic or international events. His win at the 2022 RRB proves he’s got what it takes to accrue plenty more medals and titles in the years to come.
