In his Week In Review video posted on Monday, January 27, CrossFit LLC’s Director of Sport, Dave Castro, revealed some intriguing information about the upcoming 2025 CrossFit Games Open, which starts on February 27. Here are three key takeaways you should know about.

1. Dave Castro Will Not Be Doing the Live Open Announcements
“Recently, I have been asked a lot on some of my affiliate trips and visits by affiliates if I’m going to do it. I have been asked internally if I’m going to do it,” Castro said.
After a long pause, he added, “I don’t feel like doing it this year.”
- “I don’t want to…I decided that a few months ago,” he said.
2. If Not Castro, Then Who?
After revealing he will not be announcing this year’s Open workouts, Castro threw this out there:
- “You know what would be cool, is if we could get affiliates to do it this year.”
He then asked any interested affiliate owners to put together an “audition video” and tag him on social media, and he will select “at least one affiliate owner” to announce one Open workout.
3. Expect a Repeat
To the surprise of many, Castro revealed that there will be a repeat workout this year in the Open, which is something CrossFit never announced beforehand in past years.
- “We typically don’t give much information about the Open ahead of time,” he said. “We don’t put much information out there. This year, I do want to plant the seed that, last year, we did not have a repeat in the Open. The year before, they did…We kind of go back and forth [about whether] we’re going to have a repeat. This year, we will have a repeat in the Open.”
He added: “I don’t think we have ever put that out a month in advance, but just to give you some things to think about or some intrigue, yeah, we will have an Open workout repeat.”
One Last Thing
Castro also said the plan is still to have athletes go head-to-head during the live Open workouts and that they have already asked “a number of athletes” to participate. He then added that CrossFit would announce the live Open announcement locations “soon.”
Despite assurances otherwise, it appears that if fans and/or community members want to know more about the CrossFit season, Castro’s YouTube channel remains one of the most important sources.
