No matter what strength sport you love most, there’s no denying the impressiveness that comes along with split jerking a log. This tough to balance implement is tough enough to strict and push press, and when you add in a split jerk it becomes a completely different animal. In terms of current professional strongman athletes who do it best, few compare to Rob Kearney.
In fact, Kearney is the current -105kg Log Lift World and American Record holder with his massive 186kg/410 lb log lift that he completed back in 2015. Since then, Kearney has only improved in the log lift and continues to push his numbers higher and higher with every competitive year, as clearly evident from his latest training footage.
Two days ago, Kearney shared a massive log lift split jerk double with 204kg/450 lbs. Why is this lift so impressive? Well, besides it being a casual 450 lbs, there are only a handful of current professional strongman athletes who can consistently and successfully log lift over 200kg/440 lbs on a regular basis, let alone press it for a double in one set. Secondly, the speed and control of each rep is absolutely ridiculous. In Kearney’s Instagram video’s description he writes,
“It takes a lot for me to get amped up for training, but I wanted to go out of 2018 with a bang!! 450lbs (205kg) x 2 last night!! Hey @giantslivewsm who is the best American log presser?”
Last year in April, Kearney competed at the Log Lift World Challenge and finished with a 200kg/440 lb press. On his Instagram page after the performance, Kearney went on to state that this lift wasn’t his best showing and he was going to only improve after this learning experience.
Since then, Kearney made a second appearance at the 2018 World’s Strongest Man competition, and has matched and pushed his best log lift numbers in training. We don’t know about you, but we’re excited to see what Kearney can press in 2019!
