USA Weightlifting has named their Pan American Games Team to compete in Lima, Peru. The Pan American Games are set to run from July 26th through August 11th. In USA Weightlifting’s press release, they announced that four men and six women that will travel to Peru to represent the United States.
All of the athletes selected for the Pan American Games have represented Team USA on an international platform before. These international competitions include the 2018 IWF World Championships and the most recent Pan American Championships where the Americans took home an historic 43 medals and finished in first place in both the men’s and women’s categories.
The Pan American Games present a major opportunity for these athletes as they compete for a spot on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic team, as the Pan American Games are a silver-level qualification event. The event takes place only once every four years during the summer before the Olympic Games.

- Hunter Elam’s victory takes home the -59kg USA Weightlifting National Champion title.
- Kate Nye has record breaking performance and is crowned 2019’s -71kg Pan Am Champion.
Team USA closed out their first Olympic qualification period on Monday, which means the Pan Am Games will be another major event ahead of the 2020 Games.
