Six-time Reebok CrossFit Games athlete Samantha Briggs posted on her Instagram page that she injured her lower leg during Open Workout 20.4. We’re at the tail end of the 2020 Open season, so the injury comes at a difficult time in terms of Briggs making the cut to qualify through the Open.
We also don’t know the specifics of the injury, or how long she will be out from competing. The only hint that Briggs gave us from her post is that she hopes to be back to compete at the first Sanctionals™ event, CrossFit Filthy 150 in Dublin, Ireland.
Challenges are what make life interesting
So this open definitely hasn’t really gone to plan
Whilst doing 20.4 the last bar felt great to clean but the jerk had other ideas (I’ll save you from that video)
We all know I’m no stranger to injuries and I’m planning on bouncing back from this too
Hopefully not too long in this [boot] taking each day as it comes … but there’s still a chance I’ll be able to compete at CrossFit Filthy 150.
Briggs is currently in 187th overall on the women’s Open leaderboard. Like she mentioned, she’s no stranger to tough injuries and setbacks over her CrossFit career, however, we’re talking about a woman who won the Games in 2013.
After sharing news about her injury, several top Reebok CrossFit Games athletes responded and offered words of encouragement and support. Here are a few comments that stood out!
Two-time Reebok CrossFit Games champion Annie Thorisdottir wrote, “Damn… so sorry, knowing you you’ll be back and ready to go in no time.”
Current Reebok CrossFit Games champion and three-time champion overall, Tia-Clair Toomey wrote, “Oh get well soon Chicky. Your a legend!”
Reebok CrossFit Games veteran Dan Bailey wrote, “If anyone can bounce back it’s you. Get well soon.”
Several other big names responded as well, so the support could not be more clear for a speedy recovery. Briggs posted a video of her training a day later and wrote,
When you replace CAN’T with HOW you open yourself up to a world of new ideas
She went through a modified workout to accommodate for her current injury.
We have no doubt that Briggs will be back stronger than ever. We hope to see her at the CrossFit Filthy 150!
