Icelandic strongman Hafthor Bjornsson has been coming in absolutely clutch with the video content lately. In his latest YouTube video, he provides a solid 6-minutes of commentary breaking down all of the events that we might see at the 2020 Arnold Strongman Classic.
Author’s Note: Before reading any further it’s worth remembering — this schedule is subject to change and is unofficial. When the Arnold Sports Festival release the official Arnold Strongman Classic rundown, we’ll make a dedicated article to the event, its schedule, and how to watch.
Currently, Bjornsson is a 2-time (back-to-back) winner of the Arnold Strongman Classic, and is currently in prep to bring home his third title. He’s been sharing progress videos along the way and appears to be planning to do so throughout the duration of his pre-competition prep.
For folks who are interested in the what the events might be, we listed them below along with some key points Bjornsson makes in his video. As opposed to previous years, Bjornsson points out that the 2020 Arnold Strongman Classic will have six events instead of the tradition five and run for three days (again, that could be changed though).
Unofficial Arnold Strongman Classic Schedule
Day 1 — Friday
- Event 1 — Stone Medley With Natural Stones: First portion is picking up two natural stones, then pressing them overhead. Second portion, take two natural stones and load them. Final portion, Husafell carry for distance.
- Event 2 — Bag Over Bar
- Event 3 — Wheel of Pain
Day 2 — Saturday
- Event 4 — Elephant Bar Deadlift
- Event 5 — Frame Carry: This event is being slightly reworked. The frame will weigh 400kg and athletes are not allowed to wear straps. Bjornsson points out that apparently there will be a new ramp and frame compared to prior years.
Day 3 — Sunday
- Event 6 — Cyr Dumbbell: Two dumbbells with weights of 150k/330 lbs and 128kg/282 lbs. It appears the goal is to rep out as many reps as possible with weight athletes are capable of.
Again, the schedule above is unofficial, but if we had to guess — there probably won’t be too many more changes. A lot of the events run consistent with what we’ve seen in past years, however, the additional sixth event should spice things up a bit!
