Love them or hate them, double-under crossovers will be featured at the 2025 CrossFit Games for just the second time in the event’s history.
- While we know that the move will be featured at the Games in Albany, NY, Dave Castro didn’t reveal how they would be implemented during his most recent Week in Review.
Why This Matters
Double-under crossovers were first introduced at the 2022 CrossFit Games — the year Adrian Bozman programmed the events — during the final round of the Skill Speed Medley.
That year, most athletes were trying them for the first time and couldn’t string them together.
- “At that point, there were a lot of athletes who weren’t familiar with the movement and struggled with it,” Castro said.
On the men’s side, Nick Mathew navigated them most efficiently and was the only man to finish the final round of the event.
At the same time, Danielle Brandon handled them the best on the women’s side, but even she couldn’t finish the 25 double-under crossover reps within the time cap.
After that, something polarizing happened: CrossFit enthusiasts either criticized the programming and rolled their eyes at the “gimmicky” new movement, or they went home and decided to try to master the double-under crossover. (We expect any athlete with a chance to qualify for the Games chose the latter approach.)
Although Castro hasn’t revealed any other details about the workout with double-under crossovers, we expect the movement to look effortless across the field in Albany.
- Or as Castro put it, “Everyone can do them and do them fine.”
