Alex Gazan has officially withdrawn from this month’s World Fitness Project (WFP) Tour Stop II in Mesa, AZ, citing a leg injury she sustained the day after winning the Northern California Classic In-Person Qualifying Event in June.
Remind Me: Gazan – who also won the WFP’s Tour Stop I – and her husband were involved in a car accident while on a road trip in California, resulting in Gazan having a fractured fibula and putting her season in “wait-and-see mode,” said her coach Justin Cotler at the time.
- A few weeks later, Gazan announced she hadn’t recovered enough to train intensely and withdrew from the 2025 CrossFit Games.
Many analysts considered Gazan a podium contender in Albany before her injury. Although Gazan won’t compete at Tour Stop II, Cotler states she is recovering well.
- “The last few weeks, we have seen major strides. She has been able to start jogging and jumping a little bit. She has also started Olympic lifting again this week. We are being very smart and rushing things,” Cotler told The Morning Chalk Up, adding that he thinks Gazan has a “great chance” to be ready to compete at the 2025 Rogue Invitational at the end of October.
In a WFP press release on Wednesday, Gazan reiterated: “I’m back in the gym and back in the groove, but not where I need to be to take the floor and compete against the best in the world. I’m putting my head down and getting to work to be back, if not better than before, for [the WFP Finals].” The event is scheduled to take place from December 18 to 21, 2025, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Gazan’s roster position in Mesa will now go to the 2025 Games rookie, Lydia Fish, who finished 12th in the WFP’s Online Challenger Qualifier and who earned 300 points competing as a Challenger in the Pro Division at Tour Stop I.
