Temur Samkharadze (+120KG) Breaks IPF Raw Deadlift World Record

Samkharadze is a Junior powerlifter.

Georgian super heavyweight Temur Samkharadze has had a busy and successful year in 2024, stepping onto the international platform five times and breaking records on nearly every occasion.

Samkharadze made his final appearance as a junior (ages 19-23) powerlifter at the 2024 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) Junior World Championships (JWC) in Malta, and he was in record-breaking form once again.

Squat and bench press were quite subdued, well below Samkharadze’s usual numbers. His main focus seemed to be the deadlift — he did not want to use too much energy before pulling. He opened with 370 kilograms and then jumped to an Open world record attempt of 411 kilograms.

As is his custom, Samkharadze crossed himself before attempting the lift. Setting up in a conventional stance, he took the bar in a mixed grip and began the pull. The barbell moved somewhat unevenly, with his left side lagging. However, he locked it out successfully and broke the Open deadlift world record.

Samkharadze‘s third attempt at 420 kilograms was unsuccessful. Samkharadze got it to his knees but no further.

Samkharadze first attempted the deadlift record at the 2024 IPF Classic World Championships in Druskininkai, Lithuania, where he broke the Junior world records in the squat, bench press, deadlift, and total. However, the Open deadlift world record eluded him.

Two weeks later, Samkharadze took another swing at the 2024 Euro Muscle Show, an expo event held in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He succeeded with a 410.5-kilogram deadlift, his first Open World record.

Samkharadze is not on the roster for the upcoming 2024 European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) European Junior Championships, so it seems this was his last competition as a Junior. However, he has been competing successfully in the Open classes for the past two years, so his transition should be smooth.
