Is There a 21.4 Coming? Castro’s Clue.
Yesterday, Dave Castro posted a photo to his Instagram story setting the stage for CrossFit’s 21.3 live Open announcement studio except the screen in the back showed workout 21.4 written on the wall, not 21.3. The post has since been deleted but not before several took notice.
Between the lines: Known for his Internet ploys, Castro’s Instagram post could be nothing more than a gimmick intended to gin up interest. Few of his clues or posts end up being more than promotional theatre.
One big thing: Today’s live announcement kicks off 5 hours earlier than normal, at 12:00 PM PT. It will also feature two different groups of pro athletes: the three Panchik brothers followed by E.Z. Muhammad vs Sam Briggs.
- The fact that there are two sets of pros has added more fuel to the fire that there will be a fourth workout.
- The deadline for submitting workouts this week remains at 5:00 PM PT.
The big picture: There has never been two separate workouts programmed in the same week. Though uncommon, two-part workouts have shown up twice in the 11-year CrossFit Open: 15.1 and 18.2.
- Both 15.1 and 18.2 required stronger athletes to “earn their barbell”, effectively demonstrate their capacity in a traditional CrossFit Metcon before they get to throw up some heavy weight.
