Jeison Lopez (Junior 77kg, Colombia) Clean & Jerks 200kg in Training!

Jeison Lopez — the Junior 77kg lifter from Colombia — is at it again. Just a couple weeks after posting an incredibly impressive 170kg snatch to Instagram, Lopez crossed another lifting milestone in training: the 200kg clean & jerk.

Check out the lift below.

Note Lopez’s wide re-grip between the clean and jerk portions of the lift, which is something most commonly seen among South American weightlifters. Lopez has clearly mastered the technique to great effect.

Lopez is undoubtedly one of the Western hemisphere’s top lifter. Still a teenager, he’s the reigning Junior World Champion AND Senior Pan American Champion. At the Senior Pan Ams in July 2017, Lopez actually attempted a 200kg clean & jerk but came up short on the jerk portion.

At that same competition, he snatched 162kg for a new Pan American Junior AND Senior record.

We’re guessing the next time he attempts this weight in competition, he’ll have an even better crack at it.

It’s worth noting that Lopez still has two years of Junior eligibility, but with numbers like these — the 170kg snatch and 200kg clean & jerk, while done separately, would give him a 370kg total — it’s not crazy to think he’ll be in contention for Senior World Championship medals later this year in Anaheim.

Even crazier? This year’s Pan American Championships was his first-ever Senior international competition — and he won it pretty easily. The sky is the limit for Jeison Lopez, and we’re just glad we’re along for the ride (as spectators, at least!).
