Watch three-time Reebok CrossFit Games champion Mat Fraser finish strong in first event.

Spoiler alert: Mat Fraser is really good.

The three-time Reebok CrossFit Games champion came out soaring in the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games first event. Fraser dominated the leaderboard and finished with a time of 15:07.70.

The first event went like this:

4 rounds for time of:

  • 400-m run

Fraser looked seriously strong and consistent out the gate in Heat 3. After two previous Heats already done, viewers knew what to expect by the time it was Fraser’s time to go.

Wildcard invitee Ben Smith finished on top of Heat 1 with 16:29. He was the only competitor in the first heat to finish before the 20 minute cap. James Newbury was the top finisher in Heat 2 with a time of 16:21. But, come Heat 3 Fraser stole the show with his time of 15:07.70. Chandler Smith also put on a strong performance with a time of 15:43 in Heat 3.

In other news, CrossFit HQ announced that Frederik Aegidius has withdrawn from the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games. Aegidius qualified for the Reebok CrossFit Games by being named Denmark’s National Champion in the 2019 CrossFit Open.

The 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games are well underway at this point, but we’re still days away from the crowning of the Fittest on Earth.

Fraser still has plenty of workouts to push through before he can claim the ultimate victory of Fittest Man on Earth for the fourth year. Fraser will be looking to match Rich Froning’s feat as four-time CrossFit Games Champion.
