A world record was broken not once, but twice, at the 2022 Rogue Invitational in Round Rock, TX. The new holder of the Dinnie Stones Hold for Time is Canada’s Mitchell “The Moose” Hooper, who maintained his hold of the combined 325.3-kilogram (732-pound) stones for 39.85 seconds.

The Dinnie Stones are made of granite, and are the subject of strongman lore. Several athletes have tested their strength by picking them up to hold or carry with them. Going into the day, Mark Felix held the old record with a time of 31.4 seconds.
American strongman Kevin Faires actually holds the Dinnie Stones Carry world record. He carried the stones for a distance of 25 feet, 8 inches at the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic in Columbus, OH.
Faires was also the first to break Felix’s mark in the Lone Star State. He stood in between the stones and held them to his sides for a time of 37.58 seconds. Faires was less than 24 hours removed from the 2022 Rogue Invitational Strongman event, where he finished 10th overall.
Faires’ record stood for a few minutes, until Hooper approached the Dinnie Stones. Coming off a very impressive third-place finish at the Invitational, and in the midst of an incredible breakthrough rookie season, Hooper used the same approach that Faires did, and he broke the record again by over two seconds, dropping the stones in just under 40 seconds. Aside from earning the record, Hooper also won $5,000 for his effort.
Hooper Soars
Hooper’s 2022 season has been filled with several highlights, including winning both the 2022 Giants Live World Tour and the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic UK contest. He also finished eighth overall in the 2022 World’s Strongest Man contest.
The former marathon runner wasn’t done after the Dinnie Stones either. He also planned on breaking the Thor’s Hammer Hold record as well at the Dell Diamond stadium. Hooper successfully lifted the 250-pound hammer, but was eliminated after failing to lift the 275-pound version.
Still, Hooper’s tremendous strength and athleticism are carrying him far.
