Tiffany Chapon (47KG) Sets 3 World Records at 2022 IPF World Championships

The French powerlifter set a world record squat, bench press, and Total en route to gold.

Tiffany Chapon of France is the 2022 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Champion in the 47-kilogram weight class. On June 6, 2022, Chapon competed at the prestigious IPF World Classic Championships meet in Sun City, South Africa. She not only won, but claimed IPF world records for the squat, bench press, and total. The summary of her day is below:

2022 IPF World Championships — Tiffany Chapon | 47KG

  • Squat — 160.5 Kilograms (353.9 pounds) — World Record
  • Bench Press — 96 Kilograms (211.6 pounds) — World Record
  • Deadlift — 170 Kilograms (374.85 pounds)
  • Total — 426.5 Kilograms (940.4 pounds) — World Record

Chapon weighed in at 46.9 kilograms (103.4 pounds). The 20-year-old French competitor’s 426.5-kilogram raw total was 29 kilograms greater than second-place finisher Heather Connor. That was good enough to break the world record that was held by Chen Wei-Ling since 2015. However, it is actually 8.5 kilograms less than the 435-kilogram total Chapon performed in training on April 18, 2022.

This is Chapon’s second IPF World Championship appearance. Her first was in 2021. Chapon shared the news of her championship and world records in a recap video on Instagram, which can be seen below:

Chapon opened the meet by going two for three in the squat. Her first two attempts of 152.5 kilograms and 160.5 kilograms were successful. She tried to pad her new world record by taking 163 kilograms on her third attempt but missed. This three-kilogram jump wasn’t a pipe dream for Chapon. On May 9, 2022, Chapon successfully lifted 166 kilograms in training leading up to this meet. However, she didn’t have the extra mileage in her tank on competition day.

Next up was the bench press. After a promising opening lift of 90 kilograms, Chapon took the world record-setting 96 kilograms and locked it out successfully. She waived her third attempt to save energy for the deadlift.

Chapon rounded out her championship day by going three for three in the deadlift. Her attempts were 160 kilograms, 167.5 kilograms, and 170 kilograms. Her final pull was actually the second-best in her class. Connor hit 185 kilograms. Chapon was named Best Lifter at the meet.

It is unclear when Chapon will compete next. When she does, she’ll enter that contest as a multiple world record holder and best in the world in her weight class.
