Oleksii Novikov of Ukraine is your 2022 Rogue Invitational Strongman champion. After placing third in the inaugural contest last year, Novikov put together a consistent string of event performances, winning the entire contest with 49.5 points. Trey Mitchell of the United States placed second, and Mitchell Hooper of Canada placed third.
A win at the Rogue Invitational — which offers the highest prize purse of any professional strongman competition — is another capstone on Novikov’s illustrious strongman career.

Novikov’s Performance
Strongman competitions offer various tests, and an athlete is never a master of them all. For this reason, it’s usually the jack of all trades that log consistent performances in the top three that walk away the victor. And that’s exactly what Novikov did, winning 1 event and placing in top three in five events. Here’s a breakdown of his placings:
- Event 1, Tower of Power — 3rd
- Event 2, Cyr Dumbbell Ladder — 1st
- Event 3, Husafell Sandbag Carry — 2nd
- Event 4, Rogue-a-Coaster — 3rd
- Event 5, Yoke Carry-Overhead Log Lift Medley — 4th
- Event 6, Stones Over Hitching Post — 3rd
Since 2016, Novikov has racked up a list of accomplishments that any strongman would pine for. He’s a four-time Ukraine’s Strongest Man (2016-19). He also won the World’s Ultimate Strongman contest twice (2020-21).
However, winning the 2020 World’s Strongest Man is undoubtedly Novikov’s crowning achievement thus far. He tied with Jón Páll Sigmarsson as the youngest person to win the title at 24 years old. (Sigmarsson won the 1984 WSM)

After his big win, Novikov has racked up a handful of impressive victories — including the 2021 and 2022 Strongman Classic and the 2022 Europe’s Strongest Man title.
Stronger Than He Looks
With this win, Novikov takes home $112,108, the most prize money of any strongman competition in 2022. While no one knows for certain what he’ll do with the earnings, Novikov has been raising money for the Ukraine army since Russia invaded his native country in February 2022.
Amid a stellar season, Novikov also trained with the Ukraine military, balancing his competition schedule with his combat training. At the 2022 Arnold Strongman Classic, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that Novikov, who placed second, would receive an additional $55,000 to match the winner’s (Martins Licis) prize purse of $80,000. The money went towards helping Ukrainian civilians acquire body armor.
