This week the 2019 USA Powerlifting (USAPL) Raw Nationals competition kicks off bringing together the best USAPL powerlifters from all 50 states. The action begins on October 16th and runs through October 20th in Lombard, Illinois.
The athletes competing at Raw Nationals had to qualify beforehand, so this meet really showcases the best of the very best from the USAPL federation. Athletes qualified with totals that were pre-determined for each weight division.

Who To Watch
Below, we’ve included a handful of athletes that are lifting during the prime time sessions and who often make a splash at USAPL Raw Nationals. Check them out below!
Taylor Atwood, 74kg
- Lifting: Wednesday, October 16th on prime time.
Two-time IPF World Champion, Taylor Atwood is expected to put up a big performance at Raw Nats. He currently holds the IPF Classic Open squat world record (283kg), and total world record (790.5kg), so we can’t wait to see what he squats on Wednesday!
Marisa Inda, 52kg
- Lifting: Thursday, October 17th on prime time.
Marisa Inda has been a force to be reckoned with in the gym leading up to Raw Nats. Just last month, she deadlifted an insane 182.5kg/402lbs for a PR double. She’s after some big numbers, so we’re certainly going to keep our eyes on what she pulls off this week.
Russel Orhii, 83kg
- Lifting: Thursday, October 17th on prime time.
Orhii has been moving some serious weight during his training (last week he deadlifted 740 lbs.) We’re pumped to see what he’s able to accomplish at Raw Nats, especially since he’s still fresh off his first place finish at IPF Worlds, where he also set a new world record total.
Meghan Scanlon, 63kg
- Lifting: Friday, October 18th on prime time.
It’s hard to forget the epic showdown that went down at the IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships when USA’s Scanlon and Canada’s Maria Htee battled it out until the final deadlift. During this battle, Scanlon managed to set two new IPF -57kg Open World Records. Although, Htee ended up pulling away for the big win at Worlds, Scanlon looks ready to show up at Raw Nats and take home a first place finish.
Ashton Rouska, 105kg
- Lifting: Saturday, October 19th on prime time.
Earlier this year, young powerlifter Ashton Rouska blew us away when he set an unofficial World Record Total of 1,984 lbs at the USA Powerlifting Powerfest. He’s been crushing some big lifts since, so we’re looking forward to seeing how he does against a competitive 105kg weight class at Raw Nats.
Sarah Brenner, +84kg
- Lifting: Sunday, October 20th on prime time.
In August, Sarah Brenner had her best performance to date when she went nine-for-nine and set a new IPF Open +84kg world record with a massive deadlift of 257.5kg/568 lbs. She set this all-time world record at the 7th National Association Powerlifting Federation North American Regional Powerlifting Championships.
The action is just a couple days away, so study up on who to watch, and get ready for some of the best raw powerlifters in the United States to display some seriously massive lifts.
