What better way to roll into the weekend than watching another CrossFit Sanctionals™ event? The Lowlands Throwdown is officially underway in the Netherlands! The Lowlands Throwdown runs from May 31st through June 2nd in Apeldoorn, Gelderland, Netherlands, and will determine which male, female, and team will be going to the 2019 CrossFit Games in August.
The first event of the Lowlands Throwdown tested the athletes’ cardiovascular fitness with a 1600-meter run for time with a time cap of eight minutes. And the second event involved a 9-6-3 rep scheme with sprints and sandbag cleans. The Lowlands Throwdown is the second to last CrossFit Sanctional™ event of the 2019 season, and will be running simultaneously with the Granite Games. The Granite Games took off on Thursday and will also conclude on Sunday, June 2nd.
The Lowlands Throwdown is one of the biggest CrossFit events in Europe, and first came into existence in 2010 as a local competition.
In April, the Lowlands Throwdown event first kicked off with an online qualifier, which was held between April 11th – April 15th. For the final three-day competition taking place now, there are five categories: Elite, Masters 35 to 39, Masters 40+, Teenagers 16 to 17, and Teams.
From its humble beginnings, the Lowlands Throwdown has certainly grown from its early days as a local competition for all the neighboring athletes in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, to now being an event featuring athletes from all across the globe.
Whether you are tuning into the Lowlands Throwdown or the Granite Games, an action packed weekend of CrossFit is well underway.
