Often seen as one of the premiere qualifier competitions for the CrossFit Games, the Dubai CrossFit Championship generally occurs in December. But there will be no such event to give fans and athletes an early taste of elite competition heading into next year; the Dubai CrossFit Championship has officially announced the cancelation of their 2020 event.

From the Dubai CrossFit Championship on Instagram:
“In light of the ongoing circumstances and international conditions, The Dubai CrossFit Championship has decided to cancel the 2020 event.
This decision comes after much evaluation. as [sic] always we are committed to giving our athletes and spectators the best event possible and with all the uncertainties and international limitations as well as the current government restrictions that will be very difficult.”
Their post went on to say “See you in 2021!”
The Championship generally serves as a Sanctionals® qualifier for the following year, and winners of the 2020 Dubai CrossFit Championship would have secured invites to the CrossFit Games if they weren’t already qualified. In 2019, Sara Sigmundsdottir and Brent Fikowski won their respective divisions, and as many of the Individual podium finisher had already qualified for the 2020 Games, invites extended down the leaderboard.
Previously called the Dubai Fitness Championship, the Dubai CrossFit Championship was one of the first events announced as a Sanctionals competition when CrossFit removed Regionals and partnered with independent event organizers to award Games spots. The competition is often cited as a fan favorite due to innovative events, large prize purses, and elite field of competitors that often features numerous Games champions.
