The 2023 World’s Strongest Man (WSM), Mitchell Hooper, has been busy since becoming the first Canadian ever to win that title. His training has included accomplishing the Tom Platz Squat challenge and teaching fitness influencers like Will Tennyson how to log press.
Since winning the 2023 WSM, Hooper has been asked constantly about what is in his supplement stack. On June 14, 2023, Hooper finally answered the questions all his fans are dying to know. Hooper shared the recipe of his anabolic protein shake, his pre-workout shake, and what supplements he takes in a video published to his YouTube Channel. Check out it below:

Mitchell Hooper’s Anabolic Protein Shake
Hooper’s whey protein powder aids in building muscle and recovery. He puts two scoops of whey into about eight to 12 ounces of skim milk. He recommends putting the ingredients into a shaker bottle for a preemptive blend before pouring it into the blender. This trick helps prevent the powder from sticking to the sides of the blender.
Hooper adds two scoops – or 10 grams – of creatine while explaining its importance to the diet of anyone who lifts. “Creatine has a phosphate molecule attached to [it],” Hooper explained. “That phosphate molecule turns ADP into ATP, and ATP produces energy.”
Essentially, creatine allows him to access energy during the first five seconds of a movement, making it pivotal for a strongman workout or competition. Depending on his goals, Hooper will also use a weight gainer supplement for added calories. He will add body weight if he is prepping for a show that features heavy lifts. Vice versa, he’ll drop weight if a strongman contest is comprised of events that will reward speed.
Hooper adds frozen mixed berries to top the shake off, thickening the mixture. The total macros for his anabolic protein shake are as follows:
- Protein — 60 grams
- Carbs — 28 grams
- Fat — One gram

Mitchell Hooper’s Pre-Workout Slushy
For his pre-workout, Hooper pairs a scoop and a half of Perfect Sports ALTRD State with a scoop of Perfect Sports iPrep (both of which are pre-workout powders). While Altrd State is his normal go-to, iPrep is a similar pre-workout product – full of vitamins, electrolytes, creatine, beta-alanine, and caffeine.
Pre-workouts should contain caffeine and electrolytes. The former increases athletic performance and improves focus during a workout. The latter helps maintain hydration during a workout, counterbalancing dehydration caused by caffeine and sweating. Hooper finishes the smoothie with a half-shake of vitamin C to strengthen his immune system and tops it off with a handful of ice cubes to down before his workout.
