CrossFit HQ Announces Final Three Sanctionals™ for 2020 Games Season

There will be 28 CrossFit Sanctional™ events in the 2020 CrossFit Games season.

The 2020 CrossFit Sanctional™ events list just keeps growing, as CrossFit HQ announced on Thursday the final three locations for the 2020 season in a press release. There will be 28 total CrossFit Sanctionals next year and the events will run from November 2019 through July 2020.

To cap off next year’s Sanctionals season, fans and athletes everywhere can expect to see the final three events in three different countries; the United States, Spain, and Mexico.

In the U.S., The CrossFit Mayhem Classic will kick-off in Cookeville, Tennessee and will take place on January 11, 2020. The Madrid CrossFit Championship will be held in Madrid, Spain and will be from May 1st through May 3rd, 2020. And lastly, The Mayan CrossFit Classic will be hosted in Riviera Maya, Mexico from July 3rd through July 5th.

1. The CrossFit Mayhem Classic

  • Location: Cookeville, Tennessee
  • When: January, 2020

2. The Madrid CrossFit Championship

  • Location: Madrid, Spain
  • When: May, 2020

3. The Mayan CrossFit Classic

  • Location: Riviera Maya, Mexico
  • When: July, 2020

With the CrossFit Sanctionals list now up to 28, this now means that from the Sanctionals events alone, 56 athletes will be earning invites to the 2020 CrossFit Games. Keep in mind that athletes can still earn invitations in other ways like the Open (top 20 or being a National Champion) and from WildCard invites.

For context, in 2019 there were 15 total CrossFit Sanctionals, so the 2020 Games season has nearly doubled the total Sanctionals amount!

We’ve covered the other Sanctionals competitions set for 2020 as they have come in, but now we can officially say the total of events is set at 28.

The 2019 CrossFit Games is just a couple short months away, and this year has already been packed with surprises. Most recently, and in the last week, CrossFit HQ broke their silence about the abrupt deactivation of their social media accounts (Instagram and Facebook). This decision came from Greg Glassman, CrossFit’s Founder.

Also in recent CrossFit news, CrossFit HQ handed Hunter McIntyre a WildCard invitation to the 2019 Games. This year CrossFit HQ presented four WildCard invites to athletes who had not earned a spot through the various CrossFit Sanctional™ events, or the Open.

Once the final 2019 Sanctionals events wrap up, keep your eyes out for a 2020 CrossFit Sanctionals schedule that we’ll be building out soon.
