The 2022 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Classic Championships lasted from June 6-11, 2022, in Sun City, South Africa. The six-day contest saw IPF raw world records fall in the Women’s 47, 52, 57, 76, and +84-kilogram categories, and the Men’s 66, 83, 93, and +120-kilogram categories.
Tiffany Chapon and Heather Connor battled it out with IPF raw world record performances in the Women’s 47-kilogram class. Noémie Allabert won the Women’s 52-kilogram class with an IPF world record squat and total to best Pleun Dekkers’ IPF world record squat and Farid Farhanna’s IPF world record deadlift. Joy Nnamani eclipsed her IPF world record deadlift en route to gold in the Women’s 57-kilogram class, though Bobbie Butters hit a new IPF raw world record squat. Jessica Buettner broke the IPF raw squat and deadlift world records in the 76-kilogram class to tie Agata Sitko’s new IPF world record total and claim the gold for having a lesser bodyweight. Bonica Brown took the win in the +84-kilogram class with a new IPF world record squat and total.
Jonathan Garcia repped out an IPF raw squat world record in the Men’s 66-kilogram class, but it wasn’t enough to trounce the IPF total world record set by Eddie Berglund. Asein Enahoro finished with the bronze in the 83-kilogram class by broking the IPF raw deadlift world record twice. Chance Mitchell put on a show in the 93-kilogram class with IPF world records in the deadlift and total besting Jonathan Cayco, who scored the bronze with a new IPF raw bench press world record. Although Ilyas Boughalem hit an IPF bench press world record in the superheavyweight division, it was only strong enough for silver overall behind Jesus Olivares.
