Expect the Unexpected
The equipment list only calling for a single dumbbell in each division might suggest that movements like dumbbell snatches or weighted step-ups are baked into the programming. However, when preparing for the Open, the best plan of action is likely to expect the unexpected.
Before his release, former CrossFit General Manager of Sport Dave Castro teased two new unnamed elements — never seen before in the Open — will debut in 2022. In 2021, Castro’s programming introduced the wall walk, which went on to play a massive role in Event Four at the 2021 CrossFit Games.
The new CrossFit General Manager of Sport, Justin Bergh, has not referenced whether or not those new unnamed elements mentioned by Castro remain in the Open’s programming. If Castro’s Open programming is still intact, the 2022 Open workouts will likely be pretty unique.
