CrossFitter Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr Shares Her Full Morning Training Session

October 20, 2021 by Phil Blechman

The 2021 Rogue Invitational is fast approaching. Scheduled for Oct. 29-31, 2021, the 2021 Rogue Invitational is set to have the most significant prize payout of any major CrossFit-sanctioned competition outside of the CrossFit Games. At the time of this article’s publication, the total prize pool is just shy of $1.5 million, with over a quarter of a million dollars awarded to first place (17.2 percent of the entire pool).

The 2020 champion, five-time Fittest Woman on Earth® Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr, will return to defend her title at the Dell Diamond stadium in Round Rock, TX. She is the likely favorite as her dominance in the Women’s Division over the past five years is unmatched. Including her five consecutive CrossFit Games wins, in 2021 alone, she also won the CrossFit Open and the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge Semifinal. Toomey-Orr is not, however, keeping her preparation secret. Two weeks before the start of the 2021 Rogue Invitational, she shared an entire morning training session on her YouTube channel:

Toomey-Orr’s training for the 2021 Rogue Invitational takes place at the CrossFit box in Lake Placid, NY. She warms up with some straight-arm pulldowns, resistance band work to open up her shoulders, more shoulder mobility movements on a pair of gymnastic rings, plyometric work on a plyo box, such as single-leg box jumps, and time on the rowing machine.

Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr’s Morning Training Routine

Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr’s morning training for the day consists of clean & jerks, a pair of metcons, some accessory work, and finishes with a few upper body strength exercises. The CrossFit Games champ’s choices in training alongside her coach and husband, Shane Orr, are to prep for both the Rogue Invitational and her bobsled training.

  • Clean & Jerks — appears to do sets with 225 pounds while wearing a lifting belt, wrist wraps, and using chalk.
  • Dumbbell Lunges
  • Toes-to-Bar
  • Assault® Bike
  • Overhead Press
  • Hang Cleans
  • Handstand Walks
  • Deadlifts
  • Single-Arm Dumbbell Clean & Jerks

Note: Neither Toomey-Orr nor Orr shared the number of sets, reps, or weight for each exercise.

2021 Rogue Invitational

Although the five events for the strongman contest at the 2021 Rogue Invitational have been released, the workouts for the CrossFit competition have not. Toomey-Orr will attempt to defend her title against 19 of the world’s best CrossFit competitors, including 202o and 2021 CrossFit Games podium finishers Katrin Davíðsdóttir, Kari Pearce, Laura Horvath, and Annie Thorisdottir. The competition will be live-streamed on the Rogue Fitness YouTube channel.
