BarBend is committed to providing high-quality content — including written articles, videos, and graphics/photos — about strength sports and training, including news, analysis, tips, and opinion from both our in-house editorial team and worldwide roster of contributors. This page exists in order to provide insight into our editorial standards and practices.

If you have questions, comments, or concerns not addressed on this page, or if you feel a correction needs to be made on a particular piece, please get in touch by emailing barbendhq@gmail.com. While we can’t respond to every message we receive due to volume, we do our best to answer pertinent and appropriate reader questions directly.

We’re dedicated to the growth and promotion of strength training worldwide. BarBend covers a wide range of topics in strength, including training, nutrition, sports, news, analysis, reviews, and opinion. Information you read from our contributors, particularly Opinion/Editorials, is not necessarily the express opinion of our editorial team.

Mission and Purpose of Content

BarBend’s mission is to create, promote, and share accurate and high-quality information in the realms of strength training and strength sports. This also extends to nutrition content relevant to athletes and exercisers of all levels.

Our goal is to empower those interested in strength training, strength sports, and related nutritional topics with information in order to help them better assess their exercises and nutritional regimens and make more informed personal decisions regarding their wellness.

As we produce a high volume of news pieces covering an array of strength and strength-adjacent sports, we pay particular attention to accuracy of competition results and standings. We work to update pieces in response to athlete placement changes and modifications after an event if and when those changes take place at the organizational level.

Medical Disclaimer

The content on BarBend is meant to be informative in nature, but it shouldn’t take the place of advice and/or supervision from a medical professional. While many of our contributors and Experts have respected certifications and degrees, and while some are certified medical professionals, the opinions and articles on this site are not intended for use as diagnosis and/or treatment of health problems.

As always, we encourage readers to speak with their physicians if they have any concerns. We always encourage readers to speak with their physician and/or qualified medical practitioner before undertaking any changes to their exercise regimen and/or diet. If you believe or suspect you may have a medical condition or disorder, please speak with a qualified medical provider immediately. The information on this site is meant to complement — not replace — advice or information from a health professional.

Editorial Practices

All Opinion/Editorial pieces on BarBend are labeled with a special badge at the top of the article and with a standard Op-Ed disclaimer in or following the article text:

Editor’s note: This article is an op-ed. The views expressed herein and in the video are the author’s and don’t necessarily reflect the views of BarBend. Claims, assertions, opinions, and quotes have been sourced exclusively by the author.

Our in-house editorial team, Expert Network, and out-of-office contributors work hard to ensure our information is as timely and as accurate as possible. The majority of our articles feature an “Updated on” date near the author byline indicating the most recent date upon which that article received significant changes. Corrections on previously published articles are indicated within the first few paragraphs on those pieces.

Outbound links featured in our articles are intended to provide additional context for subject matter and indicate sources cited. The sites and resources linked to do not necessarily reflect the opinion of BarBend, our editorial team, or our contributors, and outbound links do not qualify as endorsements by BarBend or our associates.

Many of our articles include parenthetical, numbered research references in the text. For these pieces, full reference listings can be found at the bottom of the page.

Articles containing affiliate links and/or links resultant from sponsorship agreements feature a disclaimer at the top of the piece, along with links to our full affiliate and sponsorship Disclosures and Disclaimers page. This is in an effort to be compliant with Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines.

Many of our reviews contain affiliate links, and we maintain affiliate and sponsorship relationships with numerous companies listed on the aforementioned disclaimers page. Our reviews are based upon the opinions and experience of our editorial team and contributors in addition to the most accurate information available regarding a product’s design, formulation, and efficacy, including research about its ingredients and constituent parts.

Intended Audience

BarBend’s readership is a diverse group of strength sports athletes, experts, beginners, and fans. Our intended audience is the general public interested in learning more about strength training and related nutritional research/findings, along with fans of strength and strength-adjacent sports who wish to stay up-to-date on competition results, athlete progress, and sport development.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging on BarBend

At BarBend, our editorial team strives to create content that is inclusive and open to anyone interested in strength training or the world of strength sports—regardless of age, race, sex, gender identity, physical ability, body type, or socioeconomic status. We’re committed to writing and publishing content that expands and enhances our readers’ understanding of strength sports, whether that’s by profiling an up-and-coming athlete in an underrepresented community or sharing our expert-tested reviews of strength training equipment, recovery gear, and supplements.

With every article we write, our editors do a careful read to ensure we’re serving our entire readership, rather than just a small slice of our audience. In our news and competition coverage, we aim to represent a wide variety of athletes from all walks of life. In reviews and roundups, we question whether we’re including products for a variety of budgets, and if the equipment is accessible for people of varying ages, body types, and ability levels. When appropriate, we work with subject matter experts to ensure we’re seeking out feedback and commentary from people with different backgrounds than those of our editors. We review our imagery, language, and coverage through a lens of inclusion and accessibility, and we write with person-first language that affirms the individual’s unique experience and avoids stigmatization.

This work doesn’t have a clear stopping point. Building an equitable, inclusive community requires regular reflection and action. To that end, the BarBend team is committed to listening and learning while we continue to develop our unique voice and perspective. If you feel we have room to improve, please email our editorial team at barbendhq@gmail.com with your comments—we value your thoughts, and we want you to see yourself in our stories and articles.
