Previous Winners of the Dubai CrossFit Championship
The inaugural DCC was held in 2012 and won by Australians Grant Goes and Eva Clark. The 2019 DCC was won by Brent Fikowski and Sara Sigmundsdottir. Sigmundsdottir also won in 2016.
In 2018, five-time Fittest Man on Earth® Mat Fraser stood atop the podium for the men, and Briggs was the best of the women. It was the second time Fraser had won this contest. He first won gold in 2016.

In 2017 Björgvin Karl Gudmundsson and two-time Fittest Woman on Earth® Annie Thorisdottir claimed the gold for the third time. Her previous wins came in 2015 — the year that Noah Ohlsen was the fittest among the men — and 2013. 2013 was also the year Thorisdottir’s now-husband Frederik Aegidius claimed the crown. In 2014, Tanner Shuck won the event alongside Jamie Greene.
The Return of Ricky Garard
One of the first officially confirmed athletes for the 2021 DCC is Ricky Garard. In 2017, Garard won the bronze medal at the CrossFit Games, but it was later stripped following a failed drug test — he tested positive for banned substances testolone and endurobol. He was issued a subsequent four-year ban from CrossFit competitions. That ban was fully served on Oct. 3, 2021.
CrossFit Games Director Dave Castro issued a statement on his Instagram page on Sept. 17, 2021, welcoming Garard back and wishing him luck.
Garard performed a drug test for CrossFit in March 2021 and the results were negative. The 2021 DCC will be Garard’s first appearance back in elite CrossFit competition.
