Home gym equipment is beneficial when the gym isn’t easily available or wants to achieve a workout from their home’s comfort. Not all pieces of home gym equipment are created equal, and it can be daunting to sift through all the home gyms on the market to determine which is best suited for your training goals.

In this article, we review the popular Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym. We break down its specs, the kinds of spaces it would work best in, and analyze how it would fare for gym-goers of varying experience levels.

Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym Features

The Gold’s Gym XRS 50 is a pretty standard piece of home gym equipment when it comes to key features. It allows someone to perform multiple upper and lower body movements with its attachments and high/low cable pulley system. This is great for everyone who wants to perform both full-body and body part-specific workouts.

An appealing feature this machine offers is the amount of resistance. It comes with a 112-pound vinyl weight stack, which can offer up to 280 pounds of resistance. This is a pretty good amount for most gym-goers. Newer lifters won’t max out the machine easily. Additionally, this machine comes with an exercise guide to walk a gym-goer through multiple exercises if unsure how to do them.

Arguably the most appealing feature of this machine for casual or serious gym-goers is its price, which sits around $400.00.

Who Should Buy Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym

  • Those who want to train their upper and lower body at home and are working with a smaller space.
  • People working with a tighter budget.
  • Folks content with a weight rack that offers up to 280 pounds of resistance.

Who Shouldn’t Buy Gold’s Gym XRS 50 Home Gym

  • Anyone who would prefer not to deal with the installation.
  • Someone looking for a more deluxe home gym equipped with a barbell rack.

What We Analyzed

There are several key features to focus on when analyzing any home gym. Here were the aspects we paid the most attention to.

Versatility

This home gym is versatile enough to provide someone with a quality upper or lower body workout. For example, there’s a lat pull-down, chest press, and chest flye. However, if you’re someone who wants to be more creative with a full-body workout, you may feel a little limited. This is your standard piece of home gym equipment that hits the basics, but not much more.

Below are a few examples of the major muscle groups and exercises you can perform on Gold’s Gym XRS 50:

  • Legs — Leg extension, hamstring curl, and kickback
  • Chest — Seated press
  • Back — Lat pulldown
  • Arms — Bicep curls and triceps pushdown
  • Core — Ab crunch

In terms of space needed, this machine is about the middle of the road for home-gym pieces on the market. It stands at about six feet,  six inches tall, has a width of about three feet, one inch, and a length of five feet, three inches. The only knock that comes with this machine’s dimensions is that there’s no way to decrease its size. Some home gyms can be folded up and stored, but this machine doesn’t have that utility.

Ease of Use

This machine is basic in terms of the exercises it offers. Since there aren’t many exercise options, it’s relatively easy to learn how to use the attachments like the lat pull-down and leg extension, and since it utilizes a weight stack, it’s fairly seamless to move from one exercise to the next.

There is an exercise manual included that can help explain how to perform various movements (of course, if you aren’t sure, it’s best to seek a fitness professional’s help so as not to risk injury).

Price

Starting at around $400.00, this is a pretty good price compared to other home gym options on the market. It’s not the best machine in terms of full-body workout versatility, but it’s enough to provide someone with a quality workout without breaking the bank.

Wrapping Up

The Gold’s Gym XRS 50 is your standard piece of home gym equipment. It offers some versatility that covers the basic exercises you need to target the upper and lower body. While it’s not the best machine for full-body workouts, it does a decent job providing someone with the basics. If you need a basic, affordable piece of equipment, then the Gold’s Gym XRS 50 may be a good bet.
